Yes I do now. I have used a dishwasher more often since the 70's than not. So that when we've moved, I have often forgotten to check for one in the apt. I've been so used to having one for so long. The current apt, is below the main house and due to drainage problems, we don't have a dishwasher. I often do mine once a day, unless there are more than usual. I have them soaking until I have the time to wash them. I was never taught, I watched mother enough times and learned the process from her and why she did them her way. I would do the drying with a dish towell of cotton and put them away. And I didn't start drying until I was tall enough to put things away on a high shelf. When I was younger, I was sent to my room so often, for not finishing my dinner, that I never had to do any drying. Mother was impatient. And she would much rather do a chore, than to take the time to explain a process. Everything had to be done exactly as she did it. So she did all of the housework. And every- thing else. Dad took care of the yard work, and washing the car and vacuuming it inside. He kept all of his cars meticulous. So we ate in the car very seldom. I had an aunt who was very frugal. She didn't like dishes in the sink, and she only would wash them once a day, to save on water. She would rinse dishes and put them into her dishwasher. When she had enough to fill the sink, she would take them out and wash all of them, and then put them back in to drain. She also would take her dishwater, and pour it outside on her plants near the front door. Her plants thrived. She never had any bugs or moldy things on the leaves. She had a green thumb from the word 'go'. With water costs high today, that isn't a bad idea to borrow to conserve. And it might help any plant to thrive, as it did hers.

Anything capable of fitting in the dishwasher gets washed in there. Not living things though.
