I have this L'oreal "Volume Shocking" mascara. The first step is the "lash defining coat" (brush) which is white and mostly clay, and step two is the "volume-constructing top coat"(comb). I put #1, but when I add #2, it mixes with the 1st coat and becomes gray. I tried adding even more top coat to blacken the mixture, but it combs off the first layer. So I tried letting the base coat dry before adding the top one, but when I finnaly add it, it breaks the dried coat off into lumps that are hard to remove.
When I remove the whole thing (very gently with cotton swabs and mkup-removal lotion), I lose many lashes. What's the secret to this kind of mascara? Any advice, helpful anecdotes, or experience with this type is welcomed, thanks!

I checked the reviews on makeupalley.com & the majority of people hated this mascara. However, the people who liked it really, really liked it. Here's what one person advised:
"best mascara ever!!! its kinda complicated to use but i promise it is AMAZING once you learn how. first apply the primer to both eyes making sure it is evenly distributed on the lashes. then wait 15-20 and apply the mascara with the comb. use long strokes from the base of your lashes to the tip. If you're patient and keep combing then the mascara will naturally smooth out and separate your lashes. it tends to take longer to apply than most mascaras but if your a person who takes time on your makeup its worth it FOR SURE! I have used this mascara since about when it came out- thats almost 2 years and now im never satisfied with anything else. Now everyone is always asking me how i do my eyes and saying they are "stunning" and "captivating" but really what they mean is the mascara =)"

Personally, I recommend using a lash curler before applying mascara & combing the lashes out w/ a lash comb.

For drama, I think false lashes are the way to go. Dec. '06 issue of Allure had a great feature about false lashes.

1st. You have to let the white part dry, and then put on the black. It only mixes because it is still wet. I personally do not like to use those kind of mascaras, I've used it before and never used the white because it's pointless. So I stick to MAC. It is the best mascara ever. I've tried so many such as Covergirl , Maybelline, Bonnie Bell, L'oreal, Max Factor, and many more...and the best I've ever tried was MAC.

i use this mascara too! its really amazing and it really does magic to your lashes. Let the primer dry, but do not dunk a heap of it onto your lashes or else it will look really clumpy and spidery.

i curl my lashes b4 applying the primer and after it dries, b4 applying the black coat.

Of course, this mascara is really good but i find it a ***** to remove even with eye make-up remover, i'll still have some remnants till tomorrow on my lashes.

Sometimes it says what to do, but just put it on like regular mascara.
