Anyone who thinks its just down to training and hard work has no idea what their talking about, i know of many people who trained hard at college and uni, only to get a job at a local cafe or store!! Doesnt matter how hard you train, the jobs are not always out there, and those that are, are not paid enough to remove yourself from the poverty trap.
What is the poverty trap? anyone reckon they know? The only way to know what its like on the breadline is to live it. If you have lived it, and come through, then well done you, you deserve it, but it really is not the case for everyone.
Some have no money to spend on training, some don't have the ability to learn as well as others. We cannot all become Doctors or Politicians. We just do not all have them capabilities. So we have to take whats out there, the £6 an hour jobs cleaning or pushing trollies or labouring.
What happens if the cleaners decide not to clean anymore, or the trolleys pushers just quit, or the labourers dont labour any more? chaos, that is what would happen. It takes a whole mix of people to make up the world, why should the ones who cannot do so well, but still work just as hard, settle for so very much less?

It's not true that the poor are getting poorer. The poor are getting richer as well. Years ago there were no computers and no telephones. Now, I was walking the other day and I saw a homeless person sitting next to the fire talking on his cell phone.

How can you say that poor are getting poorer?
This is a lie that's spread by socialists and communists.

"Low-income Americans are healthier and live longer, eat better, have more leisure and enjoy a higher standard of living than ever before. A recent report by the Federal Reserve Board revealed that the net worth of Americans in the lowest income quintile (the lowest 20 percent) rose 25 percent between 1998 and 2001."

"How can anyone get out of the poverty trap?"

Spend less! Learn more. Get a better job. Get out of debt. Start saving. Start investing! Have your money work for you. If you are out of ideas, go to the library and start reading. Remember, you're living in the Land of Opportunity. Many people would pay tons of money if they could just move to America and get a work permit.

Everyone in a democracy has the opportunity to advance their economic position. In industrialized western nation to income disparity between rich and poor is well within tolerable levels. it is only in dictatorships and countries in civil war(such as many countries in Africa) that a serious discrepancy exists (where a citizen may starve while his local warlord has whatever he wants) .

People can get out of the poverty gap ( not necessarily become rich, but be able to support theme selves and their family) by moving to a democracy and working their tails off.

Thats a question that sociologists and economist have been trying to answer for centuries.
The imbalance between hourly wages and the income of economy what we call Import-Export have lot's to do with it.
Poor people have it very hard to sustain and make a life for their families. Its saddens me as a Social Worker. When I was working for Head Start as a class attentend, it was sad to see how very little some of these people had to live on. Sometimes, it's the rich people who lavishly living in extreme wealth, possessing thousands of property everywhere in the world. It's amazing to see that only a very few of them become Philanthrophists. What saddens me is the stinch that comes with low income wages. Most famliies now a days most work both parties involved so that they can afford adequatley housing, food. Most of them do not have health insurance. If we had wages that a family of four could adequatly live on, it would be in the better interest of society.
Than the aspect of less criminals and victims in prison cells would be more less likely to be a problem.
But if we do not get to that point the clitch between poor and rich will continue to rise.

The answer is simple. The rich don't want to pay a decent wage, because it cuts into their proffits. Then to make it woarse, they don't even want to pay a low american wage, so they ship your job to mexico so they can pay even less. Now there is one less job. Then the insurance companies and hospitals rob you blind making health care too expensive. Unfortunately we are all falling behind, the middle class is being squeezed and the poor crushed.
