They keep talking about his sex scandal, Shaq, the playoffs, etc. It is so annoying. Give the guy the credit that he i at least the 2nd best basketball player ever, if not the very best and the best there ever will be.

he is a scorer. and a selfish one at that. he is not a team mate, which a great basketball player needs to be.
so yes he is talented. but that dosen't always equal true all around greatness. look past the points.

Both players are great for their time. What makes Jordan so dominant is that he had that 72 win team, and a couple other teams that were close. When you played the Bulls in Jordan's championship years, you expected the Bulls to win. They were talented, and would outhustle you on any given night.

The Lakers, with Kobe and Shaq, even in their best years, weren't as intimidating. Maybe it's because you knew the Lakers didn't play their best every night, and has nothing to do with the talent of the team, but you didn't fear them in the same way. The Lakers had more talent, but they wouldn't necessarily outhustle you. Plus, that team was built around Shaq's dominance. Kobe did steal the show and eventually was the feature of the team by the end of their run, but the team was built around Shaq. Fair to Kobe or not, that's the truth.

The current Lakers squad can't be considered dominant, or even a solid team yet. They are getting there, but not quite. They are not unlike the teams Jordan played on when he came into the league. A playoff team that gets bounced in the first or second round.

Kobe's game is probably more balanced that Jordan's was. Both have the killer instinct, but Jordan seemed to be more of an all out player than Kobe is. Jordan's defensive intensity was/is better than Kobe's. Kobe has learned to pick his spots earlier in his career than Jordan did.

Kobe has all the tools to be a great player. He's taken part in championship runs, and he will be a Hall of Famer when he finishes. But he's not even 30 yet, so just let him play, and save the greatest ever talk for when he's actually old.

We didn't talk about that with Jordan until he had won at least 3 of his rings and was into his 30's..... Now we're comparing Kobe? You can't compare the legendary CAREER of Jordan with the START of Kobe's career.

Let Kobe make 30 before we re-visit this topic, PLEASE!

Kobe should feel very honored being compared to the best basketball player ever. I don't believe that Kobe is being underrated at all. If I were an ordinary NBA fan, I'll just keep looking at the player's achievements and positive contributions.

Don't be annoyed when some people criticize Kobe because criticisms can help Kobe prove people wrong. A criticism can either affect or help a person. Also, a criticism can be used as a will and driving force to success. Need a proof? Just ask ARod!

Yeah I can see where you're coming from. I don't think it's extreme though. There are a ton of past players that are better than Kobe, maybe even MJ. I think Kobe deserves credit as a good scorer, but not a great all around basketball player. I think he's in the top 50 of all time if he keeps it up, and passes just a little bit more.

No, he is NOT the second best player ever. If he were, he'd be averaging more than 45% FG, he'd be averaging more rebounds, assists, steals, blocks. MJ averaged more in every way that Kobe. Comparing their on-floor abilities makes Kobe come up woefully short.

Also, talking about the other stuff, that IS a part of how he fits into the team picture. When you have the off-court problems that Kobe has had, you affect your team. That contributes to making you less of a player as well.

In his generation Kobe Bryant is the best. I hate to compare the two of them. But I believe that the old school players like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Dominique Wilkins, Clyde Drexler, and many others are ten times better than what you see today! Todays players just do not have the energy or will to win like they used to in the 80's and early 90's. Today its more about money and less about pride and the love of the game. I would have to say that if you took Kobe in his prime and time warp him back to the eighties he wouldn't be near as good as he is now! Back then you would see scores like 122 - 128. And it wasn't unusual to see scores around 130 or 140!. Now you will be lucky to see scores get over 100 points!!! The shooting percentage back then was FAR BETTER! Larry Bird and Michael Jordan could hit just about every shot they put up! Don't get me wrong! Kobe could give these guys a run for their money! But I just can't see him as equal as Jordan! Michael Jordan had to face guys like Charles Barkley! Barkley was a Monster!! The guy was only 6'4 but one year he led the league in rebounding! Not to mention Magic Johnson! Magic was exactly that! MAGIC!! That guy could really put the move on you! And he was an excellent shooter! I mean now you see alot of "average" players and not many "great" players. Kobe is a GREAT! But he is a Great among alot of averages. Labron James is another.

Totally agree with you man. He is only 28 and is already threatening Jordan's place as the greatest ever.

These haters are using his past off court issues as excuses to degrade him haha...not like Jordan didn't have any...his wife caught him cheating and now he has to go through an expensive divorce.

THey say Kobe is a ball hog...lol if MJ made his teammates so much better, then how come he didn't win a championship every year and average a gazillion assists per game??? haha...oh yea kobe averages 4.6 assists per game in his career while Jordan's is 5.3...Kobe was on the bench his first two years in the league which means less time to play on the court and hence less prodcution. PLUS his third season was a strike shortened season!

Thank God, Shaq left! Man that guy was such a burden!

He is the best today!! There I said it, but there is no further need for comparison because they had played in two diferent chapters in NBA history. They played against each other in '96, '97 and '98 but that was it. It was Jordan's Peak and Kobe's is just going up there. Jordan dominated him naturally, he doesn't had the slightest chance. If you compare them now one would tend to be bias because none have actually seen them play against each other in both their primes. Jordan was the best in his time and Kobe now... end of discussion.
