No it isnt weird since caring about animals is very important and alot of people just do not know that so they treat dogs like they arent important as people but I think dogs are about equal to humans. And I love pets also I have well 1 doggy only but I care about him and he is so cute too so rock on with your dreams!!

Absolutely not weird at all! When I was a lot younger, my sister and I always said that after we won the lottery, we were going to buy a ranch and adopt every kind of animal there was and just let them wander free on the land, no cages whatsoever. Well, we are both a lot older now, and believe it or not, we still have the same wish. We are a little wiser about the lottery thing, but would love to take care of animals. My sister is 7 years younger than I am and her husband gets so mad at her, because she brings home every stray animal she sees. One day he came home, and there in the back yard was a momma dog and her 9 puppies. When he went in the house, there were 3 cats that he had never seen before, either. One time, she was keeping 5 baby opossums in a cage in her back yard! She really has a bad habit, but has gotten a little better lately! I'm sure there are a lot of people who would love to take care of animals. My sister, you and I are some of them! Good luck to you and I hope your dream comes true!

No you're not the only one because I was just talking to my brother about doing that the other day! Our house is already full of adopted stray cats. The only problem is, even if you buy a HUGE ranch and take in thousands of animals, you won't be able to make much difference in the mortality rate of our shelters. An estimated 300 million cats and dogs get gassed every year. So while you can do your little part, the best way to fight this problem is to encourage people to spay/neuter their animals, and be caring, responsible owners. I'm putting money where my mouth is and having one spayed this Wednesday!

No, it's not.
It's a reality in many areas.
Just south of my town is a large ranch where retirement animals such as mules, donkeys, burros, horses, and llamas are allowed to live out their full lifespan. My city (population 6400) has a no-kill animal shelter.
We usually hear about the other facilities, but there are humane facilities as well. Even if you can't buy this piece of land, you can find these facilities and donate your time and/or resources.
You have a good heart. You will have a successful life.

No that isn't weird at all. I love animals too and thinking of them being abused by scum bags and put down just because they are unwanted is horrible. I've actually always wanted to open like a pet sanctuary myself so I totally understand where you are coming from. IWhen you get older (assuming your young) you can really do it. There are a lot of people who feel the same way you do so they could help out and you can change it all. Props girl.

No, it's not weird, I feel the same way. I've adopted 2 dogs. I have 10 acres of land waiting for me when I retire and I plan on getting horses, a couple of sheep to mow the lawn and I'll probably get another dog and a couple of cats.
I volunteer at the local animal aid society, a no-kill shelter. I take dog and cats that are available for adoption to different venues and show them. We have placed quite a few. I don't know your age but with here with parents permission at age 15 you can volunteer at the shelter. You can take dogs for a walk, bathe and feed the animals. You can also clean out their cages (Oh joy!) Look into it. You can bring a little joy to the life of a pet, and help it get adopted. Check into it!

We are currently nursing a stray pitbull pup back to health, someone was kind enough to dump her at an empty house on my block. We called animal control and they said that they only hold them for three days and then they put them down. So we are trying to find her a good home. We placed an ad in the newspaper and I think this one lady is going to take her. So she was just given a bath, so she will look and smell pretty for maybe her new owner.
There is nothing wrong with what you want to do, Good luck to you.

no... i have often had that same thought.
But, we as animal lovers must realize, is that most of the time the ones that are put down, are much better off.
The people who decide to put down an animal are animal lovers too. The have the hardest job in the world, to take a life that was once treasured.
I worked at a humane society for a while. I watched them put down hundreds of animals, because they were dying and suffering. Every time, every person, walked out of that room crying.

That is something I've fantasized about too..... basically a sanctuary for animals, with a staff veterinarian....
I wish more people felt like you do.... there should be no strays....
if people would be responsible & spay & neuter, there wouldn't be homeless pets.... and any that do slip through the cracks could be at no-kill shelters until they find loving homes

nope that's not weird at all. alot of people are animal lovers and feel the same way.
the problem isn't with the animals though, its with humans. we are the ones that need to control the problem. so instead of having an unrealistic dream of creating a happy little farm. why dont you create awareness and stop the main causes of the problem. stop people from breeding their pets when that cant accommodate for them. stop animal cruelty and neglect. stop animal give aways, where little kids take home pets they aren't allowed to keep. the list goes on.
