There is a fixed rate taxi fare office on the airport itself.they would book a taxi for you on the spot, u will have to pay the fixed fare as per the kilometers u wish to travel towards your dsstination. the rate is fixed by government per kilometer.they will provide you receipt for your payment and they wil call the cab in front gate of the meenambakkam airport.the airport is quite far from chennai main city.but if you wish to save money and travel by the local train, this option is also with you and easy because there is a local train railway station just outside the airport.u will have to just cross the road out of airport.the railway station is just 5 minutes away walking distance from airport.the language is one problem in the city in all south but it is good that you can make it out if u can speak english.DONT travel in auto rikshaws in chennai(madras) they r very harsh in driving.where u want to travel first fix the fares, they ask for night shift fare that is rs 100 if it is late in night extra.do not tip the drivers they r verygreedy fellows.first only clear all the terms and when u r travelling for a long distance with a travels car then never clear all your dues before reaching to ur destination as they starts asking more money in the name of various reasons.so be clever.

On arrival do not go out of the airport and hire a taxi. Go to the prepaid taxi booth at the airport

You can pay the taxi fare to their destination according to a preset government approved fare chart. You are issued a taxi voucher to you destination and on reaching your destination you hand over the voucher to the taxi driver
When taking a prepaid taxi from the airport there is also a paper trail of where the taxi driver is taking the passenger and this information is recorded by the police as the taxi leaves the airport.

This is a safety measure for passengers traveling by prepaid taxis.

Having paid the fare at the airport also ensures that there is no haggling over the price with the taxi driver and not having to convert currency when you reach your destination
