They should be allowed by law just like sick days maternity leave etc. They are a must for a good work environment, not just for yourself but also those you work with.

I have a vacation day scheduled for April 30 and another June 30. Three or four weeks of August usually attend my
yearly vacations. Its warm then and dry. Solo camping may be added to the usual sea kayaking. Last year I had three
nights at a county park lakeside in wooded valley. I was in
the mountains looking for karst. April 30 will probably be for cycle maintenance. I use a local Yamaha dealer. June 30 is open but thats a month of wet storms blown up from the state of Hawaii. I'll have to stay sane that day answering questions.
I also have something called 'Floating Holidays' which are unpaid but authorized previously scheduled departures that may be in hours up to eight total once weekly. These are earned at rate of eight hours monthly for not using the union
contract sick leave time. Requests must be filed at least a day in advance. Unused FH hours may be redeemed in a cash-out based on wage once yearly, usually January.
From my saved FH hours it is my practice to donate up to forty hours total to staff who have exceeded authorized sick leave and need additional recovery time. It is what we do for Union Brothers and Sisters. There are over two hundred and thirty (but only two are Republicans). I'm a Socialist.

Yes, because school is ridiculous. It wouldn't hurt them at all to start it two hours later. Many adults don't start work until 9 a.m., so why should I have to catch the damn bus at 6:50? And yes, people would use it for the day they had a test so they could study extra. So freaking what? They'd stay after school and take the test the next day. That's the mental health part.

yes because I figure every now and then I need some time to myself, if anything else just to get away from the people who bug me.
