He had Scottie Pippen who went to the Finals with the Trailblazers! He had one of the best defensive players in the game, Dennis Rodman. Kukoc made a name for himself after MJ left. Steve Kerr is analyzing basketball players/events everyday in his articles. How could you not say he was fortunate to have such a great team? Kobe just had Shaq.

Scottie Pippen is also one of the top 50 NBA players of all time... I never liked Rodman besides the fact he banged Carmen Electra... but that is beside the point you have to look at the numbers the MJ put up... like points per game, rebounds, and a little less so assists (b/c of pippen and kerr), in which he averaged in all 3 ridiculous numbers for a guy in his position and for his height. He might be a little overrated but the team was definately never to much underrated. The "Team" had the best record ever in history, so what if a lot of the credit goes to MJ, he definately was the best player, in which case the credit should go to him, at least (mostly?) in a greater proprotion..

You are probably right to some extent... but it is negligible. He is the best player of all time, arguably (b/c of Olajuwan(sp?))... The team (other players) definately deserves a little more credit.

*Note: I was just reading some peoples answers, he definately isnt/wasn't a "great" person... he is really self centered and does whatever he wants (Not saying I wouldn't do the same if I was him...), he is getting a divorce b/c he wants younger chicks (and he can do it)... Dont bring his character into question*... Also whoever answered this question and doesn't know that Jordan doesn't play anymore and hasn't played in, what 10 years?, why would you even try and answer the question?*

FINALLY!! Someone besides me thinks Jordan was overrated. The Bulls without Jordan made it to the conference finals and that was before Rodman!! Jordan couldn't win a ring back in the 80's and he hated the Pistons so much because of that he black balled Isiah Thomas from getting on the original dream team!! Don't get me wrong, Jordan was great..But not the best ever, I'd give that to either Kareem (who won tittles with two different teams as the go to guy) Magic, or Wilt the Stilt. I also think Pippen was the most underrated player in NBA history, he was the type of player that made his whole team better in his prime.

He was NOT overrated, but his team was underrated. Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman were both PHENOMENAL. Dennis Rodam had a season with an average of 19 rebounds per game. 19. Yes, 19, while Pippen was the most versatile all around player in the history of the game--he could dunk all over you or he could shoot the lights out, and the year that Jordan retired, they were still a number 1 team.

No. He's not overrated. And I don't feel his teams were underrated. He always seemed to have a solid cast of players around him during the Bulls' dominant years.

I think the Bulls were almost a perfect storm of factors. A genius coach. A mega star like Jordan. Another star, albeit lesser like Pippen. And an ongoing cast of really good players who filled in the rest of the highly successful Chicago system. Paxton, Kerr, Cartwright, Armstong, Kukoc, Rodman, etc etc etc. A lot of solid guys came through there, and by the grace of Jackson's coaching and ability to assemble a team around Jordan, they dominated.

That said, and my attempt a reasonable answering made, I'm dead sick of the Kobe vs. MJ children barking their posts. MJ>KOBE. Period. Ask your math teacher!

How can you say Kobe JUST have Shaq. Check your NBA history and you would find great players willing to cut off their fat paycheck just to play alongside the Diesel. Malone, Webber even Allen Iverson. Being with Shaq is like having your one foot cemented on the the NBA Championship. If Jordan could choose his teammates he would have gone for Shaq over Rodman Kukoc and Kerr combined. I wouldn't think he would trade Scottie for anything because of their supreme chemistry. Kobe couldn't win it since Shaq went to Miami even though he had ample back-ups in Mihm, Odom and Butler. Jordan in their first three Championship only had Scottie Pippen. Imagine those incredible Lakers, Portland and Phoenix teams, the Bulls beat them all despite having an inferior line-up. With all these, who now is OVERRATED??!!!!!!

No way man. And I think it should be Shaq had Kobe, Shaq deserves all the credit for the National Championships, after all, he has won another one since. Jordan was amazing, and he will always be the best, just live with it.

Jezzus man, watch some sports footage. He dominated. There are clips from the "Best 100" that The Best Damn Sports Show just aired floating around on the usual places (Youtube, Putfile, etc.) His teams were good, but it's the team's job to be good, these are all pro atheletes, they are all good, and would have been good without him, but they never would have dominated the way they did without him.

Jordan just didn't dominate with the Bulls. He dominated at UNC too!

I think Michael Jordan was really that talented, but you're right that the bulls had a powerhouse team for several years, built around a lot of different weapons.

Ha, I don't even know what team Jordan is on anymore... he was big when he and Pippen and Kerr were the Bulls, but it seems like nobody cares anymore.

If you ever watched the guy play you would know he wasn't overrated. He took control of the game in a split second. The guy was amazing. Maybe his team was underrated though.
