All depends on your terms of employment, your repo with the management, your past performance and possibly the amount of loss the company/management have to suffer because of your mistake.

Hi, regarding ur question whether a waitress can be forced to pay for a mistake like ordering a wrong sandwich... Well the answer in "No". A restaurant makes a lot of profit to be able to bear the loss of such small mistakes done by the staff and a restaurant shudn't do dat coz dat wud result in an increase in employee overheads which means a loss of bigger amount to the owner. In case a restaurant does penalize da staff for such small mistakes than its not worth staying with such unprofessionals and inhuman ppl, better change da place of ur work, thank you.

Well, not "force" as in sue you if you don't pay for it but they can probably fire you if they're pushed. It was your (I assume you're the waitress) mistake after all and because of it they wasted time and materials so it's only right that they be compensated by being reimbursed for the cost.

It's best to pay for the mistake and use it as a learning lesson. In the future you'll be a better waitress for it. Just be thankful you're not working somewhere that they make *really* expensive items.

Good luck!

Yes. But if it only happened once or twice over 4 months, I wouldn't penalize the waitress, but I'd let them know that they had to take better care to get the order right. Now if it happened a couple times a night, every night, I'd definitely take it out of their paycheck. Once I did that, all of a sudden they learned their lesson and the orders came in right. Wrong orders can cost a lot for a business. One of my waitresses even mis-ordered on purpose saying "Oh, don't throw that away, I can have that on my break." She didn't last long once I picked up on it.

Yes, because she has cost the business money. Now most of the time this wouldnt happen but if it becomes a regular thing then something has to be done to get through to her. Its either that or hit the road.

I do not think so. If they brought the wrong one, next time just say, excuse me, you brought me the wrong sandwich I ordered (your sandwich.) if she doesn't exchange them, they quietly leave and do not consider that specific restaurant again. Good luck.

In most states it is illegal to make an employee pay for errors, broken dishes, etc. Any employer who trys that should be reported to the labor board.

No. I used to put the wrong order aside and tell them it was for their lunch....since I provided lunch for them at not cost.
