It depends on your skill level and access to appropriate props. Some good ones are levitation, cutting an assistant in half, pulling items out of a hat, making silks appear and disappear, cups and balls, mentalism effects, the Acme Magic Company and the folding banana, cut and restored rope, and card tricks if you have jumbo playing cards.

It depends on whether you're looking to be:

a) a sleight of hand magician

b) an illusionist

I worked as a stage-hand for a large-scale magic show back in 1982... maintaining illusions (from an old David Copperfield stage show) for "It's A Magic World" for Marriott's Great America.

My FAVORITE illusions were:
a) a double cutting-woman-in-half
b) a double transported man
c) Girl to Gorilla
d) Dove from Silk, then disappearing dove from cage...

I never could duplicate any of the "Hand" magic... but I did rebuild the Woman in Half and Girl to Gorilla illusions years later.

LOL... this is giving my flash-backs !! I'll now have to sit and sketch out the illusions !!
