This depends on how old you are. I am a Big Yellow Box consultant and I run this business, but the company does most of the work for me, I just have to complete the projects and show them to people.
I have listed a few websites where you can find some opportunities.
Another idea is to find something you are good at (like mowing lawns, fixing computers, babysitting, etc;) and go from there by forming your own little business. You might also be good at crafting, in which case you can make crafts and find different festivals or craft shows and get a booth.
Good luck!

The Businessman's Creed is find the need, then fill it.
You need to look around your neighborhood and figure out what goods or services are *not* being offered that need to be offered. Pay special attention to those times when you have been looking for a service locally and saying to yourself, gee, I wish there was a place that offered ____ goods or ___service.
When you have made a list of what goods or services are lacking in your local area, then you need to figure out which of these services you have the skills for, then narrow it down to which one you think you would enjoy the most, that would offer you to best return for your investment of time and money, and offer you a sustainable living. No one can tell you well, clothing stores are a good investment, you might already have 10 clothing stores in town, and no shoe stores. The biggest mistake I ever see people making is going around to thier local stores, looking at what they are selling, and then setting out to sell the same thing. If there are 10 people selling the same thing in town, you are cutting off your potential to earn based on accepting a smaller piece of the pie, instead of locating the whole dessert, and likely to encounter the ire of others for wanting to take it out of thier living, and it is thier job to make sure you can't do that. No one makes enough that way, unless it is a business where there is a huge need for a particular service, and not enough people to provide it. (for example, in a growing area there is plenty of need for doctors, and thier practices are often filled, especially if you have a specialty. I had to have a cancer removed, and the doctor I got was the only one in the area who did this sort of surgery. I thank heaven he chose to move to a smaller town, because other surgeons of his caliber are 2 hours away, and he has been rewarded for going to a place where surgeons of his sort don't usually hang out. He identified a need where he can have the whole pie, and not just a piece of it, and is prospering that way. )

My husband and I have an online/offline retail franchise that might work for you. I can't give you details here since it's against the rules of this site but send me an email or check out my profile if you'd like more information.

You need to have a skill. Photography, carpentry, and writing come to mind, but there are a lot of options out there if you are willing to put in the time to learn a trade.
