Suspicious-minded person that I am, I had assumed that it was something you made up, along the lines of the most commonly used letters in the English language: e,t,a,o,i,n,s,h,r,d,l,u...
'Etaoin Shrdlu' was sometimes used as 'anonymous' if a person did not want to list their real name in a letter to the editor, etc.
Could it be an anagram for something...?
I had wondered about you, how you managed to get so many best answers in what seemed like a very short time (compared to how long it took me.) I thought that perhaps you weren't an individual, but a group of people; perhaps a fraternity or sorority who were all using the same name, and that was why you never seemed to stop to eat or sleep....
Forgive me if I'm being foolish. I had thought that perhaps the YA people removed you from the top spot in comics and animation for some kind of misconduct.
I never really wanted the first place myself; I've always felt that it makes a person a target. There are so many that want to come and test their draw against the 'fastest gun in the West' so to speak.
Have you changed your nickname before...? If you do that, do you lose your accumulated points and have to start over...? What inspired you to draw the horizontal rose (that IS what is was, isn't it...?)
Having looked at the other people's answers concerning the origin of the name after I posted my answer, I feel foolish now. Don't mind me.
(BTW, I sort of missed you while you were 'away'.)

it's a girl's name i believe. i think in Irish mythology, Etain was a beautiful woman who was not allowed to marry or have children, however this one guy whose name i can't rember sneaks into her tower in the disuise of her maid and they end up having a son. either that, or i've got the wrong story and Etain is the story about the fairy girl who turns into a swan. i think Enya has a song about that story.

In Irish mythology Étaín is the heroine of The Wooing Of Étaín, one of the oldest and richest stories of the Mythological Cycle.
""She"" is the daughter of Ailill, king of the Ulaid.
Etain is definately a girls name and comes from the Irish mythology

Sounds like it could be either male or female. Regardless, I think you should stick with your name. Long live creative names that are unique!

If I heard the name and had to take a guess, I would say it was a male name. To make it more feminine you can try:
Etaina
Etainela
Taina
etc...
