9 + (3/x)/(x/4) + 1/12
= 9 + (3*4)/(x*x) + 1/12
= 9 + 12/x^2 + 1/12
= (108x^2 + 12 + x^2) / (12x^2)
= (109x^2 + 12) / (12x^2)

You might need brackets to write the problem as it actually is, but taking what you've written literally:

3/x/x/4 = 3/x * 4/x = 12/x^2

so you have 9 + 12/x^2 + 1/12

108x^2/12x^2 +144/12x^2 +x^2/12x^2 =

(109x^2 + 144)/12x^2
