There weren't any school shootings then. A lot of us had guns but we fought with our fists and no one thought a fair fight was all that bad. We were usually friends after the fight and got on with our lives. Repression of male aggressions are to blame for the outrageous violence we see in our schools today.

i wish i knew the answer.when i went to school we had an after school gun class you could. take to learn about guns and gun saftey. there was a shooting range in the basement, below the gymnasium, just like the indoor firing ranges you can go to now. you were required to take the hunter saftey course offered by the oakland county sherrif dept.

"Repression of male aggressions?"

Interesting theory, but it holds as much water as a sieve.

There is as much "virtual" male aggression as there ever was, between school sports and the proliferation of cable sports. Males can vicariously satisfy as much "aggression" as they need.

I'm not sure where the answer lies, Locutus, but I don't think sportsmen need military semi-autos to hunt deer, nor do they need armour-piercing rounds.

There's just such a love affair and glorification of firearms out there, not to mention fantasies of armchair soldiers of fortune. Look at the popularity of paint-ball.

If anything, this latest tragedy should drive home the point that NO ONE, anywhere is totally "safe."

I don't care how much "Homeland Security" you have or how many concealed weapons you have.

$h it happens. Period.

So many macho men flapping their lips about what they "would have done" if they had been there with their concealed weapon. And it's all just a bunch of BS and hot air.

Nobody is totally safe. Get used to it.

Folks in Israel have been going about their lives for quite some time with that reality...

The feminization of American males that is why. Now they are too busy worrying about their "feelings" and global warming to be real men. They are not allowed to fight in school like we did. Now they just come back and shoot up the whole school. How things have changed...
