Statistically and noticably european and asian students excel far beyond that of American ones. Why? What exactly is it about them and their education that makes them smarter than us..??? I think it has to do with a mixture of education methods, attitude, and culture/living standard. What is everyone else's take on this???

what is wrong with America's education system is that it is run by the government (public system, where most children go) and the government sets the regulations, and of course we just follow it, but you do have a choice, there are charter schools and private schools or you could home school, they (foreigners, particularily Japanese and Chinese children) are smarter because they take education more seriously, they are more motivated, they are studying on how to better the world around them and achieve more and learn more, and we are worrying about how we can stay thin and still eat as much as we want or where to put all the extra **** we have spent our money on and didn't really need

It is not so much the system but the educational ideology behind the family...
Many cultures place greater emphasis on getting good grades and understanding than a lot of USA families...
Many of the Eruopean and Asian students I have had were more respectful, tried to listen and learn while their USA counterparts were making noise, playing and generally goofing off...
In some countries in the world, if you don't get good grades in school then you do not get to go to college or University.. you go to a trade school at most.. and rarely do you get to go beyond that.. so the students work harder...
also, you have to work or you fall behind.. if you fail it is YOUR fault.

What are you asking? Should we hire more Asian and European teachers to 'over-haul' our schools? We suck and we have to fix it from within, or get the religious right all mad that we hired non-Americans to teach their kids. Imagine the outrage and putrid anger they would spew over that!
I like Allister's idea. Let's take the students who don't want to learn out of the classes and teach them automechanics or building trades while the rest of the students can prepare for college without bored morons spitting paper at them.

The problem is not what you might think. The problem is that the vast majority of teachers in elementary and high school are liberal females who inundate their captive audiences with left wing stupidity and are afraid to keep obnoxious students under control. They in turn serve as 'leaders' to other students who mindlessly follow them.
The other factor? Jive Rap Music and this country's obsession with all things black. Don't think so? Observe a dozen or so TV ads. White males (not wite females) are made to look like morons. Black males are always portrayed as being cool and in control.
Simplistic answers? Not al all. I'm a retired professor with a double Ph.D. and have observed the decline since the late 60's.

I think it is the way our education system is set up. nowadays, teachers are teaching their students to pass certain standardized tests. The test results are what determine what teachers are retained and what teachers are let go.

One more time: THE US SYSTEM IS MARXIST! We need vouchers. Europeans get to choose their schools. Currently, our schools teach at the level of the most stupid in the room so every one can be equal. Its called 'equality through mediocrity'.

it is coming from an eighth grader who's failing math buut doing properly in different courses............. I knew the equipment had originated from organic lack of information and conceitedness from president bush.Is finding out coaching ? tell me is that coaching ? through fact im discovering a thank you to take an eoc attempt to thats all we do in math classification.
