1. Although Nevada didn't meet the threshold in population to become a state, the silver bullion was needed to help fund the Civil War.

2. It began in Virginia City, i forgot "how" it began.

3. There were only roving bands of Paiutes and Shoshone, with a few Washoes sprinkled in near Lake Tahoe area during the 1700-1800 period. There were no white settlements from the spaniards or the americans. The first american explorer was John C. Fremont in the early 1800's.

4. My favorite is Samuel Clemens, during his stay in Virginia City. There was Wyatt Earp in Goldfield for a while, Butch Cassidy and the Sun Dance Kid robbed trains and stages in northeastern Nevada, the Donner Party ate themselves, and Chief Numaga and Chief Winnemucca raised havoc on unwary pioneers as they rolled thru the desert.

Nevada became a state for political reasons not economical reasons. The com stock began when Henry Com stock claimed that the gold found at 6 mile ranch was on his property thus began the com stock lode. The early 17-1800 were filled with miners, muckers, gun fighters, ranchers and farmers, everyone trying to make their mark in the new territory. Some early important men-Holmgran- ranchers since the early 1800. Comstock- know for the Mother Lode. Loy Lee Ford- the first women to own property in her own name in Tonopah NV< Al Kem only Chinese American to become the the first female farmer- Hawthorn, NV. Lucy Stone- women's suffrage movement.
