I think it is healed, but here are ugly scars of it. But is't the taking of lands and slaughtering of a people (native americans) just as bad if not worse than slavery?

If you take the total household income of african-americans alone, you'll find that black america is quite rich compared to all african countries put together. I'd say that the wounds of slavery are healing at a good rate. Maybe I wouldn't understand because I am white/asian.

It already has. You nor I, nor anyone else alive today owned slaves. Period. This happened over 200 years ago, and for people to still be holding a grudge over it is nothing more then childish.

Do I think it was wrong to enslave a race? Yes. Do I feel like I owe something to people who, number 1 were never enslaved, number 2 didn't know anyone who had been enslaved? No.

Who is holding these people back? It is themselves and no one else.

The solution is for these folks to stop blaming their problems and issues on "the man." And until this happens, it isn't going to get any better.

I have a black Grand-daughter. I teach her about her HISTORY in the U S A,not Africa.I teach her to respect herself and others and not to label herself. If you ask her her nationality she says American not African American.Africa has nothing to do with her.I know this may offend some but oh well it works for her.She doesn't use the "N" word about herself or friends and never will. She respects herself and those who fought for her rights here for that.

And for those of you who keep repeating what Imus said...
F*** off ! My grand-daughter is no nappy headed ho.

Healing is impossible as long as forgiveness is not granted.
Those who keep dredging up a past that hasn't existed for over 150 years are guilty of perpetuating the problem.
That past was remedied and the price of hundreds of thousands of lives of caring white boys was paid to correct the situation.
HOW MUCH MORE PRICE NEEDS TO BE PAID?
Those who refuse to be satisfied are the CAUSE of today's open sores.

The American government is doing all that it can to stitch up the wound of slavery and KEEP it stitched. Too many members of the black comminuty, however, want to keep ripping it open. :S

If it hasn't healed already, I would be worried about what African-American parents are teaching their children. Hopefully it would be to forgive. From your question I do not know anymore.
