I've heard this before, because at night your spine rests, and while you are walking and standing all day your spine kind of gets compressed down.

Yes, and from what I was told it's because after all day of having gravity push down on you, you're shorter at night. I'm not 100% sure that's the scientific answer, but that's what I was taught.

I've heard that because when you lay down you stretch your spine out but the minute you stand up it compresses back down.

I HAD noticed during pick-up basketball games that I was DUNKIN' over Shaq, before 2:00pm!!; by 7pm, I could barely touch the backboard...well, thanks for clearing THAT up!
