How much money has been spent on it?

How much of that money could be used for much better causes such as helping the homeless and such? Maybe use the money to get healthcare for everyone? ;)

Is the war on drugs even working? Nope. Same amount of people still do drugs.

Would it be easier just to legalize? Yes. Drugs are never going to go away no matter what you do. Not only will legalizing it make it so it can be taxed it will help clean up alot of the crimes on the street and will give more room in jails for more important things. Such as people that are out there PHYSICALLY HURTING other people.

Violent crimes are way more of a threat to the public then drugs are. We should be spending more time with the Violent people then the teenage kid at the state park smoking a joint while he is walking around.

Legalize some of the less addictive stuff. The war on drugs has amounted to nothing. The war on drugs should have had more emphasis on treatment and prevention as envisioned by (good God! Richard Nixon!).

If a person can grown their own stuff in their back yard, suddenly, the excuse of supporting a terrorist evaporates!

Last time I checked the two most dangerous drugs on the planet are legal to consume in the U.S. Those being Alcohol and Tobacco. They both have been proven time and time again to be very dangerous to ones health.

Compare the number of people killed by drunk drivers as compared to drug related drive by's. The drug related drive by's would vanish if the commodity being illegally sold became legal.

The tobacco drug dealers have been caught selling products they are modified to make them MORE ADDICTIVE! This stuff is one of the biggest causes of death on this planet.

There needs to be a war corporate greed that advocates killing people to make money!

The way it is being handled today yes it is pointless. They catch someone and they get a slap on the wrist. Give them lots of jail time. Make the offence so serious that it would make people think befor they did it. Some would say what do you want us to do build more jails...YES.. if that is what it takes do it. More are worried about the cost of keeping them in jail than getting to the root of the problem. Whats the cost of someone that is non productive in society because of a drug problem..That is a burden on society. Some countries do not have as serious a drug problem as North America. Why? You get caught and you do serious time or even death.

This is probably said by someone who does drugs but is not a heavy addict yet. The stats say that drug use causes many people to steal, neglect their children, go unemployed, and many other terrible things. Go research the stats on this. The drug war isn't wiping out all drugs, but it is keeping it from being rampant.

Yeah, and murder should no longer be a crime. Look at how many murderers we still have.

Wont ever be legalized, the federal, state and local governments make way to much money on incarcerating people for drugs and drug use not to mention all of the pee test labs and etc. that have lobbied so hard to keep them illegal. Just like the war...to much money to be made to stop now.

A very good friend of mine just said something on this subject.. Let me see if I can repeat what he said..

He said, If I have to pay taxes and go to work and pay more, then have to have drug screening to keep my job, Why aren't the people on welfare who are getting my money from working, not made to take drug tests to recieve it?..

I though that was a fair assessment of check and balance..

agreed. We are losing the war, we have incarcerated people for menial charges, and waste a lot of taxpayers money.

Legalize it!

Look at tobacco. We are doing a better job of decreasing usage while it is illegal. Let's legalize drugs and use the tobacco strategy to decrease usage. The drug war has failed to do that.

Many have agreed that it is pointless, but no one is willing to say enough is enough. I agree with you that the money should be spent on our people. Every adult should have the choice of what drug they want to use. Whether it is cigarettes, liquor, pot, heroin, etc. A society of sheep must beget a government of wolves.

Tobacco and alcohol are much worse than marijuana. If I had my way, all 3 would be illegal, but since I am not going to have my way, I say admit the reality and legalize marijuana!
