this is a really contraversial question, but do you think that people should have to have certain tests to make sure theyre mentally stable, able to look after a child before they have one or is it anyones right to have a child? i watched a programme where this blind couple had kids so they could look after them,i think thats wrong. Also know of drug addicts that have kids too get themselves housed...etc

you get check ups to addopt a pet or child anyway.i know parenting doesnt come with a handbook and even the people who you think will be great parents can get it wrong and vice verser, but i think in 20 or so years from now the world would be a nicer place to live if they bought it in.

No, actually, but unfortunately they can. I saw the programme you were talking about with the blind couple, it was disgraceful; I'm not saying that blind people shouldn't have children, but they shouldn't have them for that reason; parents are supposed to parent the child, not the other way round.
What really riles me up are the number of people you see pushing kids round in prams whilst they've got cans of beer in their hands, that's bad enough out on the street anyway, but with a child in the pram...then the f word comes out of their mouths every other word...then they light the cigs and the smoke's getting blown all over the child...the worst thing is, they've got cigs and beer and the kids looks like a bar of soap would kill them; it gets me so incensed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So you're absolutely right, some people shouldn't be allowed children, but I think that is something which sadly will never be taken into account. All we can hope is that the social services keep doing their jobs well and that there continues to be a steady flow of adoptive and foster parents ready and willing to give the unfortunate kids the lives they deserve.
For the record, I am a parent.

I think that there should be a financial requirement to have children. That sounds kind of crazy but, I almost can't stand it when I see young 19 and 20 year old girls getting pregnant multiple times without a college degree. There is no way that a young girl should be able to have 2 or 3 kids if she can't afford to give her children good healthcare and a decent life. Extremely poor people having kids is just creating more poor children. It is mostly the poor children that end up on the streets in gangs, and end up poor later on in life because thier parents can't support them financially. But yes, people should evaluated mentally also.

When you see some of the beatings and abuse children come in for on the News channels and in the Newspapers by some sections of society. It does make me wonder if having a licence and being able to prove that you can provide for and look after a child properly before having one should be a prerequisite. Maybe having to attend some sort of parenting course would be a good idea.

OK, I am sure there are some PC types out there that are going to scream about human rights and stuff but I can't help thinking having to prove you are a worthy person to have a child would help protect a lot of suffering by children in the long. After all they are the innocents in it all.

To tell you the truth NO I think they should have kept giving free milk to kids and give them a drug to stop them getting pregnant.
Not blind people or even mentally ill.
Just the ones born on housing estates. You know what I mean don't you.
The kids are small but they grow really quick with the steroids they get off the parents. They put so much coke up the nose! its unbelievable

The world is so over populated as it is at the moment. It annoys me when you see parents who have over 10 children, what happens to the middle child syndrome? There's a couple of good sci fi movies about which focused on this and only allowed couples to have a child to combat the problem.
I hear 14, 15 yr olds talking about how it's far easier to have a couple of sprogs and get benefits rather than having to work. It's becoming common practise and they pass this attitude onto their own kids.
I've seen girls 18-19 yrs old, 8 months pregnant talking about how much coke they've shoved up their nose, drinking sambucas and it sickens me.

There are a lot of goofballs that have kids, I'll admit that. And sadly, those kids will probably grow up with mental problems. But can you imagine what it would be like if childbirth were regulated? It's straight out of a George Orwell nightmare.

a good question, but the answer must be no, i have an 18yr old son who hates me !! me and his mum got divorced nearly 10yrs ago. he got his **** in his hand when i would not give him £500, all i get is insulting texts from him. I would say that I am a fairly stable sort of person. so its not always the parent, its the way that kids are these days.

A very good question.....

And although you have worded it tactfully.....I agree with what I think is your underlying point....i.e. that is that such people shouldn't be allowed to have kids....

I think you can make this more general.....i.e. people who are from impoverished backgrounds.....or who already have too many kids for their personal circumstances should not in an ideal World be able to keep having more and more....

Although things will never change here [but never forget the quote system used in China].......I think it is a sensible conversation none the less. People are fools to themselves sometimes.......but we are not talking abortions or killing babies here...merely the principle.....

It's a bit sad to see someone who has three kids in foster care for neglect, a fourth under investigation and pregnant with a fifth.
