i am very unsure as to what job I want to take. I have no planned future career path, or even what sector i would like to work in.

Is it worth me studying for a degree, possibly in religious studies/philosophy, if i have no idea what i want to do>

Will just having a degree make me stand out in interviews?

i made the mistake of going to university without knowing what carreer path i wanted to follow. i ended up dropping out.

going to university is a great experiance but as everyone is doing it, degrees arent worth as much as they once were although they are still good to have.

to stand out now you need a first or 2:1 really. i know people missing out on jobs because they only have a 2:2 degree.

i wouldnt do a degree in religious studies though.

Why don't you go to college as undeclared and for right now just stick to your core courses. These courses are required for ALL degress at that university or college. I will bet you will find something that you never thought you were interested in and make that your major...you never know, but regardless of what you want to do with your life, a college education is a pretty good deal. It will enlighten the rest of your life and imagine the conversations you could have. There are endless opportunities for you with a college degree. You could be an officer in the Air Force regardless of your major usually, or another branch with a degree and they will pay for it under certain circumstances, or you could pay for your degree and contract for the military. Or, you could do a civilian job such as a professor, or engineering, sociology, psychiatry, medical...you see, the possibilities are endless and it is really hard to make a decision about the rest of your life without some knowledge of being on your own for a bit. That is where college life comes in. I am 34 years old and in college after 6 years of military (still serving) and before that I worked at Target for 6 years with no room for advancement without a degree. I was stuck and you will be too if you don't go to college. Men can usually get away with not having a degree and still make a decent living, but in this sexist world it is harder for a woman to do the same. Go to college and get a degree, and if you change your mind about your major in the middle of it, that is okay too. Life happens and with that experience your thoughts change. With an education you can keep up with that. Say you go into philosophical/religious studies and you get bored in the middle of your job. All you would have to do is take a some more classes and get another bachelors. What I am really trying to say is just be happy, don't worry so much about the future or think that you have to stick to a plan, because like I said, Life Happens, things change. Well, I got philosophical on you there.

Having a degree will always make you stand out in interviews as opposed to someone who only graduated from high school. A lot of the time it doesn't even matter what your degree is in, so long that the employer sees that actually have that degree. Also, college will help steer you in the direction that you want to go... you don't need to know what you want to do for the rest of your life yet (I'm assuming you're pretty young judging by the wording of your question). Going to college is never a bad idea and you will almost always make much more money with a degree than without one. Everyone has loans too, so don't let that deterr you.

Having a degree is very "worth it". Most people don't get careers that have to do with their majors, and a lot of professional jobs require at least a masters. Once you've been working for a little bit after you get your associates or bachelors, you can figure out what you want to do and get a Masters in that. While having a degree won't necessarily make you stand out in an interview, i.e. there are alot of people applying for jobs that have degrees, at least it won't make you stand out as the one person without a degree applying for a job. Also, if you did well in school, that can help you stand out in interviews.

You may want to consider taking some time and just work for a while. You can go to college for a couple years in most cases before you have to declare a major. You didn't say how old you are and sometimes that makes a difference. However, you really should get a degree. Yes, it will help during job interviews.
Good luck.

Many people don't know what they want to do. Some even take a few years in college to figure out their niche!

If you really aren't sure, an "Undecided" major would be advisable. This major exposes you to different types of programs through courses and lab work and should help you make a decision.

Yes, having a degree will make you "stand out."

Good luck!

for my area, in simple terms having a level places you forward. i've got observed that maximum user-friendly jobs in my area require a level. you isn't regarded down upon for reaching your degree on line that's what many each physique is doing now days reason it makes it less complicated for people who artwork and convey different ordinary jobs. you may have a level in baking cookies, yet because of the fact this is a level you're extra qualified then somebody with out, no rely what the degree is for.

It's very important to have a degree, even if it's just liberal arts. Not only for being hired for work, but for your general education. High school education is woefully inadequate.

Colleges also have career counselors who can talk with you, help you consider careers that might interest you that maybe you never thought of, and may even help you find a job.
