If something terribly happened, and the U.S. President Elect died, what would their title be in memorium? "President" isn't quite accurate, because they never got to take the oath of office or serve, but "President-Elect" seems too sad a statement of unrealized potential to use for all of history. Is there already a protocol for this eventuality? I realize it's morbid, but I'm curious.

Sorry if I was unclear. The articles of succession are pretty clear as to how he would be replaced, but I'm mostly asking how we would honor the deceased.

President elect until they take the oath of office. From the second they take the oath they are President. Until then they are president elect. It has never happened and let us pray it never does.

It would then go to the VP elect and that person would then be considered President elect.
The only title available would have President elect, there is nothing else in existence.

Well, we haven't had a president elect since 1992. In 2000, shrub was the "President-Appoint." Although in retrospect, he is really the "President-Disappoint." Anyway, that aside, you raise a much more important question: what happens to the country and the office of the president if the elected president were assassinated before taking office? I hope we never have to find out.
