I have both my monitors connected using a cable that connects both of my monitors together which is then connected to the monitor port. This makes both monitors have the same image so is there any way to expand the desktop without the use of a graphics card?

You say you have "both monitors connected using a cable".

If you have a SINGLE cable that has two monitor connectors and connects to the output on graphics card then it is probably a special connector that can drive two monitors. The only time I have ever seen this is the "custom" two monitor connector used by Dell and some other computer makers.

Give this a try:

Right click on your desktop, click "Properties", click "Settings", click on the 2nd monitor, then tick the "Extend my desktop.." box and click Apply. Then you can move the second monitor to line it up correctly.
