I have been watching the news concerning the Virginia Tech shootings, and CNN had a question about attending Tech in the future. On h.s. senior responded and said that no way would she attend Tech. Why doesn't she understand that the same thing could happen at any university?

I live in Denver and can tell you it can happen anywhere. Columbine is in an affluent section of the Denver Suburb of Littleton. Virginia Tech will be the safest place to go...you know what they say about lightning striking the same place twice.

while watching the news, Me and my brother talk about where that could happen at the university that we go too. Where would the most people get hurt and at what time....... for example the cafeteria...... some would get hit, but there is a gigantuan lecture hall with two small exits and that would be a disaster if someone let loose there.

That can happen anywhere. We've had a couple of students who commited suicide from jumping from buildings after poor grades and crap like that. But I guess its just a matter of time before someone gets a gun and goes crazy. OR the drug war( that is VERY VERY close to campus) spills onto the grounds.

Oh I definitely agree with you. CNN right now is saying 33 is the new body count. Something of this magnitude could definitely happen anywhere, at any time. What the hell is going on with this world? When Columbine happened, I said to my boss, " I knew something like this was going to happen eventually". Because people who get bullied are eventually going to fight back. The Virginia Tech situation so far isn't anything like Columbine, and we don't know why the shooter did what he did- but yes, this could totally happen anywhere! Say a prayer tonight.

The memory on that campus will be especially strong. It is true it can happen anywhere but the pain and fear will be associated at the origin of the event. The same idea with schools in the past such as Colombine, we all think of Colombine solely on the idea that 2 gunmen murdered a bunch of students.

Actually, VT will probably be one of the safest places on earth for the next couple of years. Kind of like Columbine was the safest HS in America for many months after the shootings there.

I think people DO understand that this can happen anyplace. Many are in some form of shock, and are just saying alot of really stupid things right now. Sort of like many of those on Yahoo today.

It can happen anywhere. . . Although I agree with Michael P; it happens way to often. People right know are distraught and scared and when your scared you try to find some sort of comfort in this case its pointing the finger to a person or place i.e..... "white people towns" as I've read in other Yahoo Answers. This is normal reaction and it will pass V.T will be safe again.

I think it was a tragedy first and foremost and my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

They were just sitting ducks with no way to defend themselves much like the victims of Colin Ferguson. Concealed-carry advocates warned us all long ago to expect tragedies like this as long as we have gun control.

When only criminals have guns the rest of us can only ponder tactics like "notifications."

In a state where concealed-carry is allowed or promoted, the loss of life could have been much less. He may have shot one or two, but a concealed-carrier would have dispatched him right quick.

Sadly there is no way to prevent a killer with a gun. In tribal Africa where there are no manufactured guns, tribesman make them from pipes and rubber-bands so clearly gun control is not the answer. You can make a gun out of wood in an hour! He could have stabbed just as many with a knife.

Since you will never stop the OFFENSE, we must allow ourselves a DEFENSE. We are not all of one culture anymore, so violence will only increase.

The only way to prevent these killing rampages is concealed-carry. Would you rather protect yourself or wait for the folly "notification?”

One of the leading med schools in the US had random shootings 3 years ago. Plenty of students still there. People didn't quit just because some loser lost it. Media needed this to get over Imus.

well, leave it to the liberal morons at CNN to ask such a question on the same day of the terrible event. CNN is the bottom of the media barrel below even the feces and urine.

It most certainly can happen, anywhere in the world. It's just human nature to expect otherwise.
