In a few days I have orientation for a possible new job with teenage kids. At the orientation they will show me around their facility, train me a little and show me what the job would involve. It's not a sit down interview and I don't have the job yet. So I want to dress professionally, but I don't want to overdress. I'm attempting to switch fields from professional business to working with children. Normally I would I would wear a dress suit with heels, but I sort of feel that's a little too dressy. I don't know what to wear? Do you have any suggestions. Are khaki's, a button down shirt, brown suede shoes that tie not dressy enough? How about a pair of black slacks, button down shirt and black shoes with no heels. Do I bring anything with me a resume? a small of pad of paper to take notes?

You should call the Human Resources Department or your hiring manager. They are the best source.

I am assuming you are a man....

If so, I would suggest you wear a suit. At minimum, khakis, button down shirt AND A TIE. Shoes needs to be a dress shoes. Stay conservative. I wouldn't wear suede shoes.

Don't forget, you will be walking by managers, directors, and owners (if there is one) as well as your colleagues and kids. You are dressing for your future boss to see you. If you show up and figure out you are over-dressed, take off your jacket. For us, men, it is very easy to go from full dress to business dress.

Bring what they tell you to bring plus a yellow pad or something.

If in doubt, contact your hiring manager and ask what is needed and appropriate. He/she will appreciate your effort to be professional.

Men always wear the basic black or blue suit and women wear the same black or navy suit with a skirt. If your walking a lot, then comfortable dress shoes and women wear a comfortable flat. Same rules always apply for trying to get hired anywhere whether it is a formal or informal job interview.........

I would recommend a nice polo shirt, khaki pants, and comfortable shoes, but not tennis shoes. They have to look nice. This should be a casual atmosphere and casual dress should be appropriate. However, when in doubt, dress to impress. They will tell what is expected if you do come in wearing the suit and tie. Your choice. Good luck!

Marshalls has a very casual dress code, you should wear a nice pair of slacks or skirt and a nice blouse. If they hired you even though you were wearing jeans, it may be okay to wear a nice pair of jeans with a nice shirt as well. I wouldn't wear sandals though, you should wear shoes that are casual but comfortable because you'll most likely be on your feet quite a bit. It also couldn't hurt to call them and see what the dress code policy entails.

Wear something that befits the position and organisation decorum. Most importantly, be comfortable.
