The "3" in 325 and 330 means it's a "3-series" car.

3 series = compact sport sedan
5 series = bigger, more luxurious
6 series = coupe version of the 5 series
7 series = executive limo... "top end".

the "25" and "30" used to mean engine size, but it may not always correspond to a 2.5 or 3 liter engine depending on the model. So the easiest way to think is that it means "power".

i = the standard notation for most BMW cars.
iL or Li = long wheelbase (usually in the 7-series)
xi or ix = all wheel drive cars/SUV
ci = coupe or convertible
ti = hatchback (1995-1999 only)
d = turbo diesel (non-US)

but the latest model 3-series coupe has dropped the "ci" to become just an "i". So you need to look at the car itself.

They are both 3 series the 325 is 2.5L & the 330 is a 3.0L engine. The letters after the numbers is a body stlye "i" means sedan - four door, 'ci" stands for convertible or coupe (2 door), "xi" is n AWD ( all wheel drive - 4 wheel drive) which is a sedan or wagon.

the first digit is the model (1-series, 3-series, 5-series, 6-series, 7-series). next two digits is the engine displacement (18 is 1.8 litre, 20 is 2.0 litre, and so on). "i" stands for injection, and added "C" might be for "convertible" or "coupe".

so a 330 Ci is a two-door 3-series, powered by a 3-litre engine.

not sure about the "X" in "Xi".. haven't seen one.

The 330 has the upgraded handling and power package. Stiffer suspension, more hp.
the 325 is pretty much your base car.
xi=awd fuel injected
ci=coupe fuel injected
i=fuel injected
