Why did the gunman do that?

Columbine: Those kids did it because they were being bullied... but what made this person go out on a shooting spree???????

i keep seeing a lot of answers being that there is a lack of gun control but just because one has access to something doesnt make that the cause for doing something so drastic.. there must have been some other reasons behind this...

Who knows. He must have been mentally ill. It is too bad he took all those people with him. I agree that gun control is not the correct answer.

he was a social outcast, a loner, a victim of bullying behavior. he had a major anger (need a much more explosive word) problem that was not contained or dealt with. he did not have the social skills to connect with people (or found it difficult to connect with friends at virginia tech-- i have no idea what the social cultural economic demographics are at VT). plus, obviously, he had access to a gun. there is nothing that could justify what he did, no excuses for the massacre, and tragic killing of innocent victims. and... bullying is a problem in schools.. exclusionary behaviors, social rejection can be extremely harmful to those that experience it. some deal with it by internalizing it, blaming themselves, become depressed.. while others externalize it, blame others, and act out.

It is the non-stop bullying that teachers and school officials won't do anything about until it is too late! Like it or not, that's the Gods honest truth of the matter!
Why are people so quick to shout out "He is mentally ill"
I don't think so! Not at all!
I think more than likely, he was terribly frustrated and tired of being bullied and humiliated by his peers and people at school and that led to his taking out his anger on others! Something HAS got to be done about school bullying and lock downs on the doors of schools while students are in attendance! PERIOD!

Scholastic pressure. Some kids, especially the Asian ones are under a great deal of pressure in school. Some kids go nuts under the pressure to be "the best".

I'd hardly call it an "incident," implying it was flightly and accidental. I'm sure the killer shot those people on purpose.

"Massacre" is the more appropriate word.

cant be gun control... people are able to obtain... whatever they want, guns, drugs, alcohol, fake ids.... so even with laws, people are gonna do what they want.... we need to get to the root cause here... the mental illness in this country.

If he was looking for his girlfriend like the news is saying, he probably was dumped by her, or heard she was cheating. Why he took out his anger on the entire engineering building as well? I have no idea.
