Unfairly, their recruiting for next year might drop a bit, but probably nothing more than that. If you are a high school senior still deciding to go to Virginia Tech or a comparable university, this event today will be fresh in your mind. It shouldn't matter, because the likelihood of this happening again is extremmmmely low, however people are emotional creatures and events like today will definitely affect decision making. I would be surprised if many people transferred out next year, as people will probably come together and become closer as a result of today (hopefully...).

My heart goes out to the families of the victims today.

I don't see any reason for it to be affected. There's no reason to fear this would happen at that institution again...chances are just as great anywhere for it to occur.

Lightning rarely strikes twice, I'd say VT is probably the safest campus in the country right now.
