I think we need more holidays. There are none between the start of January and end of May. Even a 1 day holiday on a friday or monday is nice because you can take your vacation time to extend it and have yourself an extra long weekend.
First of all, do you think we should work less?
Second, if you'd like to work less, what are some good ideas for holidays?
I have one.
Election day to let people vote and celebrate democracy.

Good idea argle,
Thanksgiving and Christmas time are usually go visit extended family time. Especially for people who have to travel long distances, it's better to have them spread apart. You go all this time without seeing them and then you see them twice within a month or so.

Think,
Sounds nice. I don't know why we started calling it the "Fourth of july" in the first place. There are other holidays with specific days. We don't call them by what day of the month they are on.
Calling it "Independence Day" like it should would be good, but calling it "Revolution Day" is better I think... remind people this country wasn't started by status quo conservatives. The conservatives of that era were called Tories. To this day the word tory is synonymous with conservatism.

After reading some answers I feel a need to suggest a really liberal holiday here.
The 4th of July, we can call it Independence Day. We could celebrate our Liberty!
What do you think? Great idea right?

It's probably a sad statement, but I LIVE to work. Without work, I have no identity. Not that I enjoy working, it's just that I know what it is to not work. As for a national holiday... How about Wright Day? Celebrating the Wright Bro.s contribution to all of mankind. At any given moment over the U.S., some 63,000 people are flying. And that's only over the U.S.! Let's hear it for the Wright Brothers!

For working less, not a good idea. Why? Because many people are already working two jobs just to make it. Other countries are ahead of us in work ethics, skills, productivity and education. I think a good holiday would be April 15th, as a sort of bonus/reward for pungling up to the IRS. Best wishes

Election day is in November! I thought you wanted a national holiday between January and May! (by the way, are you forgetting about President's Day in February???)

I hate national holidays for that very reason.
Days off and extra long weekends off from work mean less money in the bank for me.
