Yeah tottaly, its a good point. My parents think its sick and a horrible thing and that there is something wrong with a gay person. Since mum found out about me she hasnt said anything but my dad still doesnt know so he doesnt realize that when he says stupid things about gays he is hurting his own child. My life would be eazier if my parents were more open-minded and they are about lots of things, they give me a lot of freedom but i cant help but still get hurt with some of their comments. I know a lot of straight people who have parents who are open minded when it comes to same sex couples and these friends are all straight anyway they are just educated about it and they dont make other peoples lives hell. Parents views on life affect the kids view, if a parent says something the kid will then belive their parents.

Absolutely. I believe that hate is taught! Kids are very understanding about things, until they are taught otherwise!
And of course Kedar brought up a good point. He's a smart man!

Yes. My dad taught me what it was when I was about 4 or 5 (before I learned about it in church even). He said that it was evil and he asked me if I was evil and wanted to shame God. I told him no and he said that I wasn't gay.
Though I took that information in and later decided it wasn't what I believed, so I guess it's also up to the kid's own will as they get older.

I think it's the upbringing of the house. When I was growing up my dad would use hateful words or comments about gays I always defended the gay culture and I'm gay so to me it's all about the enviroment of which the kids are raised.

Children learn what they are taught, which includes everything from history to hate.
An old movie had these lyrics, which kind of sums it up quite well.
"You've got to be taught, to hate and fear,
You've got to be taught, from year to year,
It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear,
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are ugly made
And people whose skin is a different shade.
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught, before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight
To hate all the people your relatives hate
You've got to be carefully taught."
- Oscar Hammerstein lyrics from the film ‘South Pacific’

absolutely! you are a good mom! hate is a learned behavior, and with more parents like you, we'd have less hate-filled souls like the un-lovely kkk....
I believe those that teach their kids to hate are guilty of emotional child abuse....they are socially retarding their children.
open mind + open heart = loving soul

If more parents were as open-minded and cool as you, the world would be a much better place.
Thanks for giving the world a decent kid!

I was fortunate because there was no hatred in our house. Sadly, I taught myself to hate and became very ill. hatred can solve no problems.
