Is it just me or is India one of the most backward thinkning country on the face of this planet? First there is the Elizabeth Hurley thing...I mean come on they want her to go to jail because she didn't follow thier customs and her and her husabnd kissed in frount of everyone...BIG DEAL...what about her husband? He is the one who is from India he should be the one they are going after if anyone....personally I think the whole thing is crazy!! Then Richard Gere is over in India doing promotions and he can't speak Hindu so he shows his apperication to another actress by kissing her hand and cheek. You would have thouhgt he raped her because the people of India were calling for his DEATH!!! Can you believe that!! They were buring his posters and stuff for that! And here is the icing on the cake...India has the HIGHEST percentage of AIDS cases in the world!!! UMMM...I think they have more to worry about than kissing!
So what do you all think? Does this make sense to you or am I wrong?

I think the situation is hilariously ironic, and not just because of the population and HIV problems... After all, India is the home of Hinduism and Buddhism, which preach love above all else!

India has the highest percentage of AIDS cases in the world?!?

Seriously?

It thought it would rather have been in some poor African country somewhere...

Oh well.

As far as your question goes, yes you are right.

What you are describing in your long paragraph sounds completely insane and over the top but if you are visiting a foreign land, you would be wise to follow the local customs to avoid offending anyone, know what I mean?

It doesn't make it right though, I totally agree with you...

Where is our crazy world going to, I can't help but wonder?

you're quite backward thinking yourself. although all what you've said is true, how youlook at it is obviously different form how they would look at it. there are so many instances where our cultural beliefs are seen as crazy by others, but we think they are ok. just because you do what you've always known, it doesnt mean that what other people do, and do differently from you, it doesnt mean that its wrong. and es, India have problems with AIDS, but think the west, think good example, think gun crimes, think exploitation of the poor, think deal with yuor own ****ing issues before pointing fingures at other cultures

it makes perfect sense to me. you have to respect another nations customs or face the consequenses but i think wanted hurley jailed and gere killed is a bit extreme.

why should you be wrong.....after all we have a president who send young guys to war he created under false pretence and we think he is a hero who never had the guts himself to serve his country when his name came up during the VietNam war.....
I think we in this country are just as crazy as the people with other costumes in their country.....
When you do not understand it yet.....do not talk about it.....

I didn't learn how to read that many words in one paragraph when I was in school. Sorry. I'll come back after I've taken the long winded reading course.
