what would you do if you saw i soldier beging hit or insulted would you use street justice or law

First I would try to call 911 or get someone else to do it and then I would try to separate the two. It doesn't matter if a soldier is involved or not, all that matters is that two people could seriously injure themselves.

By putting a soldier in your test case you are inflaming tensions left over from the Vietnam War. The US learned its lesson back then; you can disagree with the politicians, but you have to support the troops. Since I am a veteran your case rises some emotion in me, but I would like to think that I would do it no matter who was involved.

I would chose the Law as the way to handle it, because this fight could very well be a case of "street justice" in action. We should have put that idea away a long time ago. "Might doesn't make right, Right makes it might." Is a line from Camelot, the musical and the movie.
