The major rule-of-thumb is that in the mid-1800s an average craftsman or worker earned $10 a week. At the time of Henry Ford he raised salaries from $12.50 a week to $20-25 a week. However, things changed in the great depression and in the 1930s, so that $20-30 a week was pretty standard. Of course, this was also when houses cost $1-2,000 each and gas could be purchased for ten cents a gallon.
