Oh crap, here we go again....

So... do you think that we should make it harder to get cars because drunk drivers kill and maim a large number of people each year? Or, perhaps we should outlaw baseball because a madman can use a bat to bludgeon someone to death?

One should blame the perpetrator of the crime, not the tools (s)he uses. Further, one should not penalize the law abiding because the tools used in their chosen form of recreation can be used by a psycho to cause harm. The fact remains that the *vast* majority of privately owned firearms in this country have never been and never will be used in the commission of a crime, and many are used each year in the legitimate defense of life and property.

--- Edit ---

I just wanted to add that in general, isn't it a bit telling that these sort of things tend to happen in the locations where gun laws are the strictest?

Consider what the scenario would have been if it happened in a location where it was legal for licensed individuals to carry concealed weapons. Instead of 20 something, I'm guessing that the casualty rate would have been around 4, the first few victims and the nutcase who thought it would be a good idea to go around shooting people.

Was the gun purchased legitimately by the shooter?

Even a mad man can pass a background check if he hasn't crossed the law before. And if he's patient enough, he can last through any waiting period before he can purchase the gun.

That's assuming he actually purchased the gun. What if he stole it or borrowed the gun from a friend of family member. What if he purchased the gun on the black market.

Making it harder to get guns isn't going to stop incidents like this one from happening. If you really, really really want a gun, you can get one.

Buying guns isn't easy. It was lack of concealled-carry that caused the large loss of life.

I think it was a tragedy first and foremost and my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

They were just sitting ducks with no way to defend themselves much like the victims of Colin Ferguson.

When only criminals have guns the rest of us can only ponder tactics like "notifications."

In a state where concealed-carry is allowed or promoted, the loss of life could have been much less. He may have shot one or two, but a concealed-carrier would have dispatched him right quick.

Sadly there is no way to prevent a killer with a gun. In tribal Africa where there are no manufactured guns, tribesman make them from pipes and rubber-bands so clearly gun control is not the answer. You can make a gun out of wood in an hour! He could have stabbed just as many with a knife.

Since you will never stop the OFFENSE, we must allow ourselves a DEFENSE. We are not all of one culture anymore, so violence will only increase.

The only way to prevent these killing rampages is concealed-carry. Would you rather protect yourself or wait for the folly "notification?"

I like how people are saying that this wouldn't have happened if others student had guns to defend themselves...

Do you really think it's that easy to kill someone else, even in defense?

Would you really let your son or daughter go to a school where everyone was carrying guns?

Inexperienced college kids (or anybody else) should not be carrying guns around.

right here interior the U. S. our precise to undergo palms is a factor of our shape. we could like our weapons. i choose my weapons. One tragic element bearing directly to the shootings is that the persons in Virginia banned the campus police from carrying weapons. additionally they outlawed weapons for college youngsters. There are places right here interior the States that facilitates hid carry of weapons. the persons ought to bypass a historic past examine and coaching. the place that's been used it has decrease crime. there is one county interior the south that demands each kinfolk to have a gun. Their crime value dropped dramatically. there will be a marvelous form of persons pushing for a gun ban. they'll make a row and as plenty information as achievable. the subsequent President will in all probability be a Democrat and that they desire to prohibit weapons. there are this sort of excellent form of weapons around and it is so entrenched that i do no longer understand how they might ban them. the pro Gun circulate is so solid i do no longer understand how the country could handle it. i think of that they must enforce each and every of the gun regulations completely and function the strictest of achievable effects that are actually utilized. I hate to verify issues like this ensue. i do no longer see banning weapons correcting this. He became right into a undesirable guy or woman.

It isn't easy for a law abiding person to get a gun.

Drugs are illegal. How come addicts don't have any problem getting drugs, even in prison?

Why would you want to make it harder for law abiding people to defend themselves against criminals?

You can get anything that you want, if you have the money. You can make a gun. If you don't know how, you can pay someone to make one for you.

Why is this so hard for people to understand?

During prohibition, alcohol was prohibited. Did that stop people from getting it? No, it just got more people into the alcohol business.

Guns are not bad things. Even though guns are used in the commission of crimes, they prevent crimes over one million times each year. So that means if law abiding people couldn't have firearms, it would be that much easier for the criminal.

The right wing makes a fortune off selling guns and ammunition.. plus it is an effective policy used in ghettos for keeping the place jumping.. without guns it would be a dull life..

its clearly obvious that american gun laws are to blame for these kind of massacres.. because they only seem to happen in USA with such regularity.. and at the same time.. only in USA is it so easy to buy a lethal weapon..

The biggest problem.. is you got people in power.. who are respected by society and the media gives them a positive image.. and these people are always promoting more guns.. looser gun laws.. with drive by-shootings, rampant murders and the massacre at Virginia Tech as the outcome..

Take a bow right wingers.. you've struck again.. this time it happened outside of the ghetto..

How many more times will this happen before guns are made illegal like they are in most other nations on earth.. where people learn to fight without them.. where people learn to solve problems by talking.. in USA people increasingly turn to shooting first asking questions later.. and it saddens me that right wingers cant see why it is happeneing.. they just cant use their own econometric theories to work it out.. they can use the same theories to work out GDP growth very accurately.. and unemployment rate.. yet these right wing PUNKS are too dishonest.. to look at the facts and accept that selling guns to the average citizen is not a great idea.. even if it does make a few neo cons richer and richer..

It is not easy in most states to get a gun legally. One has to undergo a background check. It is only easy to get a gun ILLEGALLY. Making it tougher to legally get a gun will not make it tougher to get an illegal gun - it will only raise the price.

Its not easy... you have to go through a background check. If the 2nd amendment is to be upheld, then all law abiding citizens must be able to buy guns. You dont know the background behind this shooter, this may be his first offense. I hope this event brings together gun-owners, rather than bringing together gun-nazi's.

It actually isn't that easy. Anyone can get a gun illegally. The second Amendment of the Constitution allows us to bare arms for protection.
