The gas is carbon dioxide .

HA + MgCO3 ==> MgA + HOH + CO2

A curious mixture of carbon dioxide (and hydrogen, if there's some raw magnesium present) will be formed. Any pure Mg will cause the liberation of hydrogen when in contact with acid. This acid principally reacts with the carbonate, and
yields carbon dioxide on contact with it. Mingled therein might possibly be a tiny quantity of water vapour.

The predominant gas is of course carbon dioxide!
