The absence of something ...

2007-04-16 10:23:13 · answer #1 · answered by zappafan 6 · 2 0

Nothing is a description. All in your head. It is not a state of the universe. In that way, it's a lot like math.

Consider an empty basket. You might ask someone what is in it, and they would say, "Nothing". But what they REALLY mean is 'nothing of importance to me right now'... after all, the basket is filled with atmosphere, light, and even space.

Nor is the emptiest void in our universe devoid of things. Virtual particles spring into (and out of) being constantly, providing 'something' even in the most apparently empty of spaces. The fabric of reality which provides the space itself might even be thought of as something which is always present.

About things which are truly devoid of even space we have no information at all. Perhaps that is the best way to think of 'nothing' - devoid not only of objects, but also information and imagining.

Nothing is the absence of any kind of stuff or thing that exists or that you can imagine. It is very elusive and difficult to conceptualize, as it has no form, substance or content. It "exists," but not in any conventional way that we use that term. We can assume that it exists because every concept or thing in the universe seems to have an opposite--so, because there are obviously so many "things" all around us, we can posit the existence of "nothing."

Nothing is the lack or absence of anything at all. Colloquially, the term is often used to indicate the lack of anything relevant or significant, or to describe a particularly unimpressive thing, event, or object.

Most philosophers argue that the word NOTHING can not be a noun, because it does not refer to any object.

Ever heard of a dictionary??

From nothing new life begins which take you to newer heights, the enjoyment derived out of it, is immense. The world salutes a man who rises from nothing.

Nothing's what I've been getting lately, and I want some too. LOL LOL LOL Hope all is well out there in your world today and you are happy and doing good today. Maybe one day I will get something? Guess I just have to keep my fingers crossed, my hopes up, and my dreams alive, LOL

When you've lost everything....to the the most basic point (eg: clothes) a person will always have something, called Hope! . but if he finally even looses that, he has nothing to loose. and i think thats when someone has nothing. (hope keeps a man going).

Very simple - keep taking away until there is nothing left then take away the nothing.

A subjective word, it does not really exist anywhere in our universe. You may see nothing but that does not mean that there is nothing there. There are atoms all around us, we are just limited in our ability to detect them.

NOTHING......is a person staring out into the opening, and seeing nothing. No rainbows, no flowers no conversations, no thoughts, no sadness no joy, still living in a cocoon, with no way out.
