I cannot predict the future.But...
The fact that Sadr supporters resigned today should be a clue to upcoming events, the PM refused to set a date for self determination of Iraq. The Mahdi army may well be out on patrol again as I write this. This does note bode well for US troops or any other foreigners currently in Iraq.
I think the civil war is about to escalate if we are there or not.
Of course the Iraqis do not want a permanent US presence. Why would they?
The current administration guessed wrong about that.

Much the same as happened in Viet-Nam. Millions will die in a full blown civil war fueled by Iran. The Saudis Willl join in on behalf of the Sunnis. Turkey will have to deal with it's Kurdish problem. Iran will run Iraq as a puppet state. International terrorist groups will gain a new training ground and a new source of funding. The left will stop covering what is going on in Iraq and pretend everything is just fine, and when the US is hit again they wil blame whatever Conservative is in power for it

If it really is only a civil war between Shia and Sunni (Kurds are the peaceful ones) then why are there rockets and bombs flying into the American Green-Zone (which btw was impenetrable under Sadam) and not in the outskirts of Iraq where there are no US soldiers or little.

The US and allies removed the government in Iraq, and are in the process of helping support the new one. It would be irresponsible to leave until Iraq is re-stabilized.
It would be like a surgeon performing a heart transplant, then sending the patient home with no further care. It would have been better not to do the transplant.
The Islamic world is in a state of upheaval, which is causing effects everywhere.

Why do you care what happens in Iraq?
There was no fighting between Sunni and Shiites before America invaded. Never heard of bomb plants?
Its an American want to profit every conceivable way possible battle!

Radical Islam will no longer have a hold on the Middle East. In case you forgot to watch "America at a Crossroad" last night on PBS, you'd notice that this war is only INFLAMING radical Islam and spreading it faster than it's actually containing it.
But the Bushies and their supporters don't see this problem. They just want to make it worse by throwing more fuel onto the fire.

The civil war will continue, the needless dying of US troops will end.

If we leave, there will be a bloodbath between the different factions. If we stay, there will be a bloodbath between the different factions. This is all that they know. They have to sort themselves out before we can help.

I agree with you. And once we leave...Iraq will turn into a terrorist haven funded by Iran....and then eventually we will be fighting the terrorists on our own soil. That is why we need to stay in Iraq until they can defend themselves.
