More than anything else Black Power is a statement of self-affirmation and confidence in the Black people of the United States. In reality they knew that they could not and would not be able to totally over-come the white man, or the white devil as Malcolm X called whites, but they felt that if they could create enough strength then two things would happen: 1-Blacks would stand up for what they believed in and 2-Whites would leave blacks alone if for no other reason than out of fear. Ultimately it was a fairly short lived movement in the late-60s and 70s and it has had very little consequence in our societies and cities today, where more blacks are in prison than are in college.
