It depends... if it was really cute then yeah go for it. I would only get one if it was phenomenal and/or I didn't have time.
However, I'm a DIY type of chick. What I would do:
*pick out a theme (i.e. teddy bears, noah's ark, - gender neutral. Gender specific: blue, trains, trucks, pink, dolls, princess) Plus, depending on the theme you can echo this for the baby's 1st birthday.
* hang around Party City (or whatever party store you have in your area) you can get inspiration from what you find there and get your party supplies (plates, cups, tableware, streamers.)
* One game that I played @ my baby shower was the "Baby Bottle Drinking contest" If you're having a co-ed shower, this is a blast! We filled up some chepo baby bottles from the dollar store w/ some Corona. Then we had the men suck the beer out of the bottles for 45 sec. The guy that got the most down got a prize. It was a BBQ grill tool kit. My friends still talk about it and that was 5 years ago, LOL!
* Another game we played was Pins on the Clothes Line. You had to get as many clothespins as you can using only one hand. If you drop one the clock stops!
* Use the dollar store for handy decorations:
* Get a cute teddy bear and put a diaper on it. Then stick the tableware in the diaper.
* Use baby bottles (in different colors if you like) as vases to hold flowers. What I did was shape baby washcloths into rose bud shapes and stuck them in the bottles.
* Use diaper pins to decorate the napkins.
I tend to collect stuff during the various sales over the year for winter holidays. You can do the same thing re: prizes for guests. I got a lot of stuff like luxe soaps, bath gel gift packs, crazy socks in the post-Xmas sales.
Hope that helps!

I would buy it just to help give me an outline. Then think of other stuff, or even think of ways i can add onto the ideas the kit gives you. It would be nice to help get you going but you should also try to think of other things on your own. Be creatice, and unique. No just stick by the book, add to it!
