Probably to keep some non-flying insect pest that doesn't like daffodils out of the field.

They are using it to protect their crop from some manner of pest. I happen to know that daffodils in particular are avoided by deer and rodents (rats, moles, voles, chipmunks).

don't you like daffodils or what. Leave them alone they're not doing you any harm.
