Paranoia good for you? Especially after seeing everything going on with the Virginia Tech shooting today. I know you're not supposed to be so paranoid that it affects you living your life, but sometimes it hard not to be. For instance, I get paranoid when i'm out at night, or sometimes at the mall when I see people that I think look "suspicious". And I know all it is, is stereotyping and its not good to label people, however, how can you help it? People shoot others at malls. Also with churches. People have in the past and even recently went into churches and shot people, whether its during the service or during a weekly bible study. At a lot of churches i've been to, people sit with their backs to the door. It's enough to not make you even want to go to church anymore. I don't even want to fly because of everything that happened on 9/11. I guess i'm going a little overboard, but isn't a little paranoia okay sometimes...maybe even lifesaving?

Yes, it is a natural defence system, after all... You just need to be careful not to let it overrule your rational thinking. Good luck!

Although it's natural to some people to be slightly paranoid it seems other people may not share your concerns especially if you go overboard, like i did and neglect the support and assurance of others. Being paranoid about things that may go wrong could stop you enjoying what you have and you may not get a second chance on something or someone that comes your way. By all means be careful, but thinking rationally would be better than paranoia.

I agree that you should be on the "lookout." Our hunches can sometimes turn out to be true. But, it is not so good to be constantly paranoid and worried that it interferes with your life. EVERY situation has the possibility of turning out to be disastrous. Most of the time it is not likely, but it can happen. And for this reason, I do not think we should live in fear because it will drive us bananas! Try not to let your fears prohibit from doing something you like. Me, and many of my friends and family, have been on planes since 9/11. The airlines have made many changes and try to do everything possible to make sure everything is safe. So, yes, I agree that it is good to have some suspicions, etc., but try not to let them overpower your life. You will miss out on many opportunities that end up to be great and safe!

At the point when your natural fears for life and health become paranoia it is NOT good for you anymore! The most dangerous and horrible things happen to us exactly because of that state of mind - unreasonable constant fear - paranoia. I bet the guy who was shooting people around was full of that fear! And don't become one of them.

We can't go thru life being paranoid. It is good to be alert and knowledgeable. We need to think about the odds of something bad happening to us irregardless of where we are.

Healthy paranoia keeps us alive.

Unhealthy paranoia, 24-7, doesn't keep you sane.
