A billion people died on the news tonight
But not so many cried at the terrible sight
Well mama said
It's just make believe
You can't believe everything you see
So baby close your eyes to the lullabies
On the news tonight
Who's the one to decide that it would be alright
To put the music behind the news tonight
Well mama said
You can't believe everything you hear
The diegetic world is so unclear
So baby close your ears
On the news tonight
On the news tonight
The unobtrusive tones on the news tonight
And mama said
Mmm
Why don't the newscasters cry when they read about people who die
At least they could be decent enough to put just a tear in their eyes
Mama said
It's just make believe
You cant believe everything you see
So baby close your eyes to the lullabies
On the news tonight
Do you think the media has lost it's humanity?

just trying to spark some humanity here.. too many people want to use this as a tool.. it's no tool, it's a tragedy.

The bubble headed bleach blonde comes on at five
She can read about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye...
There is no place for humanity in a newscast. Their job is to report the news. Straightforward. Once they start sharing their feelings and emotions about an event, they have spiralled down to commentary...and that is not what a newscast is all about.

They're professionals, such detachement is necesary just to get through a night of reading the news.
Maybe it's gone a little too far - a little glimmer of emotion now and then wouldn't hurt - but the basic idea is that a newreader should be able to get through a story while remaining intelligable. Sobbing isn't intelligable.

If I don't know the person that died it is sad but I am not going to cry about it. Neither will they. I would like you to find a copy of Walter Cronkite reporting the death of President Kennedy and you will see that newscasters do cry when announcing deaths.

The news should be non-partisan delivery of fact. I do not want an emotional spin attached to it. But, at the same time, I do not want our new to turn into sensational images like you see in other countries. You can tell me about a fatal car crash, but you don't need to show me the body at the scene all smashed up.

They actually inject more personal opinion these days then they ever have before. The reports job is to convey the information in an unbiased manner. They can not become personally involved in the story. It's part of the job.

No. The news would take far too long if the newsreaders started blubbing when people died. Get a damn grip on your emotions, people. You control them, not the other way around.

No just immune. How many doctors cry when a patient they've treated for years dies? Same thing.I've worked in the medical field for years and have learned to detach myself.

"Can you film the Operation.
Is the Head dead yet?
You know the Boys in the News Room, got a running Bet.
Get the Weirdo on the Set.
We need Dirty Laundry.
We can do the innuendo, we can dance & sing
When it's said and done,
We haven't told you a thing.
We all know that crap is King
Give us Dirty Laundry".

The media loves dirty laundry. Peoples' pain and misery is what they bank on.
