Indie stands for independent.
It is a term that use to mean "not mainstream" and such.
Of course, everything is indie these days because it is oh so cool.
So what does indie really mean?
Nothing. It is a term used by "hip" people to describe the "hip things" they like without sounding like a sell-out.

"Indie" is short for "Independant". It can refer to anything from Independant music (meaning music not produced by one of the big music labels) Or an independant film (not produced by one of the big corporate studios). Add the word indie in front of anything suggests it was produced without corporate backing.
