clean ur battery terminals. especially the hot side. take a wire brush and brush them clean. put em back on the posts, and tighten em down good. u'll be back in business. even a small amount of corrosion is enough to give u a hard time starting.

It will either be a sticky lifter, or maybe just takes time for the oil to run through your engine while it's trying to warm up. As long as it's not a real loud tick then it's really no big deal. Many car's have a slight tick on a cold start especially while it is so cold outside until the engine warms up. It also depends on what kind of oil you put into the vehicle. For example you don't want 20w50 oil in weather thats only 20 degrees. It will chatter like hell until it warms up and that thick oil starts flowing more into the engine. Lighter weight oil is good for cold environment and helps with cold starts and the ticks but as it gets warm using a little thicker oil will be more useful. I assume that you have changed your oil regularly and it currently has fresh oil in it right now also or that will also cause the engine to start ticking.

A weak battery would make the starter solenoid (the positive battery terminal goes to it) click once.
If the solenoid was bad, it would make a constant clicking noise like a machine gun.
Do this test with a fully charged battery. The 2 large terminals on the solenoid. Touch them at the same time with a large screw driver (careful of sparks).
If the engine cranks, the solenoid is bad and will have to be replaced.

Starter solenoid is fine - otherwise you wouldn't hear the ticking. There is either not enough charge to turn the engine over (new battery required) or your starter motor is faulty/disconnected.

Check all connections to the starter motor - both at the motor end and the solenoid end of wires.

with battery at full charge try this turn on switches and with screw driver arc the solenoid if nothing happens except the clicking trace your positive wiring to the starter and make sure there isn't a loose or broken wire do th same with the ground if no broken wires or loose connections remove starter and attach heavy guage wire to positve side of starter motor then attach it to positve on battery then touch negative side of battrey with starters negative the starter should spin don't be afraid of the torque it won't kill you if nothing happens your starter's bad.
