Yes, you can, but you really don't want to.

Most server class machines do not have sound card, and video cards are minimum required. It may or may not let you disable the on-board video to install an adapter. Also, server class machines usually use very expensive memory sticks to insure data integrity.

They are also LOUD, generate lots of heat, and consume quite a bit of electrical power. I once calculated, to run a server class machine, 24*7, it would cost me 50 dollars a month in electricity alone.

Those machines are not suited for most desk top uses.

You can use a server as a PC, but here's what I'd do. If you have a reason to buy the server other than using it as a desktop, download Microsoft's Virtual Server (it's free). Build a desktop as a virtual machine on this big, bad server. That way you still have your "desktop" AND still have a server to use for server stuff.

No, most servers won't run normal operating systems (such as Windows), and if they do, they won't have drivers for some of the hardware. If you want a 4 processor system, get a Quad-core Intel or a AMD 4x4 system.

I would advise against this because you will not be able to use all the horsepower and it will be lacking a good video card. You would be much better off buying a normal tower with a better spread on where the money goes.
