If they were mentally ill then perhaps to their mindset it would seem like the only course of action and not shooting those people would be terrible. It is sometimes hard to understand what motivates those who are mentally ill.
I doubt they would have thought they were doing something evil - most people try to do good things, sadly this person's idea of good has gone badly wrong.
I am sad for the families of the victims, especially their parents. It must be awful to lose a son or daughter, and all the worse to lose them for no good reason.

To answer your your primary question: in waves. The distraction created by killing a solitary person in the 1st wave in order to distract the cops from the primary target of the 2nd wave (at the opposite side of the campus) is almost the heart of the distraction tactic.
To answer your second question: acts like this are not necessarily precluded by a psychiatric disability. For instance, our military members are not all 'crazed'; they are simply products of long and intensive programming, and the shooter in this situation may simply have been a victim of such programming.

Thats the thing...alot of these people who perform these horrible acts have a cold storage shed where their heart should be. The have obviously have been mental abused, that can really cause a person to act out. Not to mention the gunman took his own life proving that he had no feelings for himself or others. He was hurting inside and he wanted to make sure others felt his pain. My prayers are with those families who have either lost a love one or have a love one in the hospital. I pray that god has mercy on the gunmans soul.

What I think is they did have problems and were filled with rage and hate. When you get to the point in life you dont care. how would you have remorse or common sense when you are filled with such hatred.
I myself am trying to find logic in something so tragic and so illogical to me.

Desperation can cause many people to act in a way that would seem horrific to others but at the time they would look at the situation as the only alternative to what they are facing. Whatever that may be.

Some people don't have remorse and don't care what happens to them. They don't care if they will get the death penatly in the process or if they will be shot. It's such a strange concept but it happens. Maybe s/he was suicidal?

We can't answer that question. Obviously, something had to drive him to the state where so much fear, pain and death to inflict on innocent people has no effect on him. I don't know what can drive a person to that state of mind.
Did he kill himself or was he taken down by a marksman?

I asked one of my co-workers about the same thing earlier. It's so sad that people can't even go to school anymore without having to worry about getting killed while they're there. What's the world coming to?!?

That's the scary thing about crazy people. It makes perfect sense to them at the time. Awful!

It's awful. I hate to hear about these things. Some people just have the urge to kill, and it's really quite sad.
