Okay I have a 1991 Chevy Beretta, it is a good running car, you can barely hear the motor running. I have spent at least 1700 worth of work on it, but it has 173,000 miles on it I was wondering how long is a car good for before it breaks down completely. Someone told me a car is good forever as long as you take care of it and keep it running good. Is this true? not to mention people who drive older cars like cars made in the 60s and 70s, they have to have lots of mileage right? but they are still running so how long for a 91 chevy beretta???????

some have gone over one million miles. All depends on how they are maintained and how softly they are driven. So they should go forever, if you want to keep putting in the money as you go. Some people opt to just let them die and get another one. Good luck

The 91 Chevy Beretta is designed to completely shut down at 425,623 miles. when the car reaches this point the driver is given an audible warning, the vehicle pulls itself over to the curb, the door is opened and the harness is released. Once the occupants are at a safe distance the vehicle begins to destroy itself, picture christine but in reverse. Once the vehicle condenses into a block it is the owners responcibility to remove the waste

It all depends on how you take care of your car. If your keeping up the maintenance you should be able to get the most 5-600,000. Chevy's are good cars built to last. I have a 95 Honda Civic that's almost at 400,000 and I haven't had any problems besides the basic oil change, brakes, and tune ups.

You car can go for 300,000 miles or more with proper care. This said, if it starts costing you more than a car payment to keep it running, then it isn't worth it. One of my friends had a Corsica 1996 and it had over 200,000 miles on it. The firewall had rotted away and couldn't hold the steering anymore. The seats had also broken out as well. The rest of the car ran fine.

i own a few old cars .50's and 60's..
they are made of steal, they will go on forever.
in the case of a 91 as long as the plastic body and interior parts can last..
ps i live in a rust free area

I have a 91 Jimmy with 347,000 on it and it still purrs like a kitten. Berrettas aren't exactly known for lasting, however, but you should at least get 200,000 plus out of that engine.

Yoy have a short somewhere that is draining the battery. Your mechanic should trouble shoot this. A short could be anywhere and he should have the equipment to find the problem.
