That all depends on your paticular office. Here if your work is finished normally it's ok to leave a little early, if you have that kind of relationship with your boss. If you need to be around then you better be around (if you want to keep you're job). An hour early is usually fine.

I have to stay until closing time because if he leaves I'm the only one left in my particular office.
