Why are parents not teaching thier children values anymore?

I am 32 and have a 13yr. old daughter. One thing her father and I have noticed with the kids her age is the lack of parental supervision. We are not overly strict parents. We taught our daughter morals, respect, and values right from the beginning.
But a lot of her friends parents are never home, their children are disrespectful, i.e. throwing their garbage on our lawn when they visit, spitting on our patio.
They run the neighborhood at all ours of the day and night.
Many of them are all ready having sex.
What do you think is the reason for this change in parenting?
How scared are you for the future of these kids?

im a 13 yr old girl. my parents raised me to be very respectful. i have noticed lately that my friends are very disrespectful and rude to other adults including their parents. its very embarrassing when im with them and they behave that way, because it makes me look bad as well. when im at their houses their parents are rarely ever home.

It used to be that people would ask themselves what they could give a child before they thought about having one. It hasn't been that way for a long time. People want to have kids, so the kids can make the parents happy and the parents have someone to dress in fancy clothes and when they grow up and get no so cute anymore, the parents want to get out so they just let the kids raise themselves. Our society is not very kid friendly, just look at the medias interpretation. Kids are lost and very empty, it's very sad I work with at risk youth and have found that the more you point them in the right direction the more they want to listen to you, they need discipline and want someone to show they care about them. Drug and alcohol abuse are more prevelant than people realize too, among parents and kids. I feel bad for these kids, we are a generation that will be leaving the earth a worse place tan when we got it because of being selfish. And they will pay a high price. All I can do is help one at a time and hopefully pass on some of my empathy. The saddest thing is they know the difference between right and wrong but they see no use in doing right.

I think people are too busy trying to make the big bucks, to buy all the latest gadgets for themselves and the kids. Fifty years ago people had one TV set and there was no video games, Sidekicks and Blackberries, but families spent time together and kids had supervision. I honestly think that if someone does not have time to be a parent b/c they have other priorities, they should do everyone a huge favor and not procreate.

I know what your talking about! I think the problem is that kids are having kids. They have children much to young and since they don't know how to deal with life....How can they teach thier child to deal? It's scary when you think about it, but these same kids that are so disrespectful are some day going to be the ones in control. What are we going to do then?

they should like run some tests on people before they let them have kids, seriously most of these parents r unaware of values themselves, i feel really sad for those kids their parents too busy to teach them anything leaving this mission to the TV, what's the use of money when ur children r a mess!!

nope. way of existence has replaced thoroughly,now it incredibly is cool to do what's in rap songs and disrespect government.undesirable information,why do you think of the cops hate youngsters plenty now.they act(and gown)like criminals.and those rappers call themselves function fashions.the 1st 2nd,they beat their lady pal jointly as making a music approximately smoking weed and killing cops and the subsequent 2nd they supply money to charity and act all good.

because they weren't given any by there own parents, if you don't use them growing up, thats the way you will teach your own.
