Of course not. It is inevitable - bad if we let it be bad, good if we make it good.

Individual cultures developed back in a time when different peoples were isolated. Now that everyone in the world can communicate, we are creating a single global culture for the first time.

Multiculturalism is a bad thing when we in the US promote the idea that every other culture is better than the one we have here. It wouldn't be bad if it were just learning about other cultures. But that isn't the case. According to Multiculturalism, Western Culture should not be taught. Now, how multicultural is that?

In a word yes.

Hey Sievorcal, it wasn't mutlicutluralism that made the USA great it was assimilation. And being able to come from many countries and become AN AMERICAN. That's what made us great, and still is today.

If different cultural groups assimilate as has happened in the past, the country remains strong. Once we divide and try to accomodate, our culture weakens. You can be inclusive and have a common language. Actually that's the strongest point for assimilation. In CA, I think you can take the written driving test in 8 different languages. Isn't this a travesty? The road signs are in english here! Not Sanscrit, Mandarin chinese, or Spanish.

My opinion is accept other cultures within our American ideal, but have a common language, which promotes our common culture. Look at Canada. It's basically split into 2 countries. One speaking French, and one English

Also, Europe is reaping it's "rewards" of multiculturalism.

Multiculturalism 'a big failure' : Spain's ex-prime minister Aznar
AFP via The Tocqueville Connection ^ | 10/27/2006

WASHINGTON, Oct 26, 2006 (AFP) - Multicultural policies in Europe have largely failed, former Spanish prime minister Jose Maria Aznar said Thursday on the one-year anniversary of riots by ethnic minorities in France.

"I believe that multiculturalism is a big failure," Aznar said, speaking at Georgetown University.

"I'm against the idea of multiculturalism. Multiculturalism divides our societies, debilitates our societies, multiculturalism does not produce tolerance, nor integration."

"And this is one of the reasons of the great failures in several European societies at this moment."

Aznar, a pro-US conservative who led Spain from 1996 to 2004, emphasized that laws must be administered equally toward everyone.

"This is the best way to integrate societies and to promote integration. To accept different laws, depending on the origin ethnic or the religion is a very serious mistake in our society," he said, speaking in English.

"For me, to establish different laws is absolutely unacceptable in a free society. This is one of the reasons (that) multiculturalism is a very, very serious failure in Europe."

Check out Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Etc.. also. It's not working, they are all losing their cultures. Thank God most of our cultural roots are preserved in print, film, and pictures. I worry about Western Europe.

Multiculturalism is wrong, so very very wrong. New labour has this twisted idea that multi-culturalism and multi-racialism are the same thing, personally, if I want a cultural experience, I will go to another country, I would prefer not to have the culture come here. But multi-culturalism is now being used as a weapon against us, with Fascist organisations like the UAF (unite against fascism, ironiclly enough) who crush any opposition to multiculturalism, because they confuse culture and ethnicity. We should not change our ideals or identity for anyone at all, we are called intolerant because of it, but the truth is, they are being intolerant of US, by not assimilating to our society.

Multi-Culturalism is not a bad thing until the separate culture groups segregate themselves and create clashing sections of societies. It tears a nation apart. A true MultiCultured society is one of give and take, the way the United States used to be. Now we have people who refuse to adapt to American culture, expecting us to adapt to them and live by their cultural rules. Not good, this creates conflict.

America actually was quite powerful Historically, through the 19th Century. The US did not fight in too many foreign wars, but the United States had a powerful Navy, especially from the 1850's on. The US was powerful Economically, particularly in trade with Europe. One of several reasons Britain did not intercede in the American Civil War was a dependence on American Grain.

Multiculturalism would be class if the idea worked but sadly the vast majority people from other races and cultures simply do not get on. So it is pointless to load up a country full of people from at least 20 different nations and try to force them all to get along. But our great and wise leaders know better so we had better just be good little sheep and not question their infinite wisdom. Had we.

Not at all. That is a biased theory used by mostly white supremacists to convince people of kicking all other races out of western nations. Multiculturalism made the USA what it is today. And don't bring the "it was better when there were only whites" argument, since this nation was not a world power UNTIL after World War II, Era when America was already a very multicultural country (and fighting an Aryan supremacist nation). Before that, Chile, Argentina, and USA had equivalent economies.

Yeah it worked out great in the former Yugoslavia until the day the ethnic cleansing started. That was a multicultural society imposed by the government and it worked out very well until one culture decided to kill the other cultures.

Political correctness in our own Western countries in the name of promoting multicultrualism is indeed a bad thing,
The way I see it, YOU moved HERE, to OUR culture, YOU accept the customs WE have set in place,
Why are WE obligated to change for YOU when YOU have come here?
...and it's a vast and disgusting double standard, because ONLY westernized countries are expected to kneel to the whims of those right off the boat.

Do we as Westerners go to Pakistan or Iran and have our long blonde hair flowing and a see through white bikini showing off our gigantic breast implants??

Imagine if the tables were turned and those oppressive regions were expected to cater to US!

you just need to see the double standard that is almost like immigrants laughing at white people and the West as new comers have all their expectations and trample all over and take advantage of our culture and our kindness.
how dare they.
...When those from Europe immigrated to America, they tried their hardest to ASSIMILATE, they tried to learn the language, expected their children to adopt our practices and fit into our culture.
